T
he 2nds had a fantastic
season, winning all their
matches except one, when
they had to field a severely
under-strength team. They
started their season in
convincing style when they beat Blundell's 8-1,
Hatti Mason and Kathleen Sondern making
impressive debuts for the team, dropping just
three games. We then went one better,
dominating against Clifton throughout, and
dropping only nine games all afternoon in a 9-0
win!
Taunton School were dispatched 6-3; Jossie
Zilkha and Milla Bell won their first two sets,
playing particularly well on their 2nd VI debut.
And against Wellington there were some
competitive matches with some fine tennis
played by both teams, but the 7-2 scoreline
reflected the strength really of the King's girls.
It was then that the season suffered its one
setback, when a severely weakened team found
the going tough at Canford, the one positive
being Hollie Bell and Elle Domellof who took
many of their games to deuce. But then the
season got back on track with a final victory,
this time 7-2 against Queen's. There was some
terrific tennis from Alex McKean, Heather
McKenzie, Hatti Mason and Jossie Zilkha, who
all won three sets each, to end a hugely
successful and highly enjoyable term's tennis.
T
he 3rds enjoyed considerable
success, losing just twice, and
winning the other matches by
considerable margins. It was a
comfortable 7-2 victory against
Blundell's, with Jossie Zilkha
and Milla Bell putting in a notable performance,
dropping only one game all afternoon! And it
was the same 7-2 scoreline at Clifton the
following week; this time Harriet Butterfield and
Caroline Lloyd proved to be the leading
partnership, dropping just the four games.
Taunton School fielded a very strong 3rds which
we found hard to deal with, but there was some
excellent tennis played, with many games going
to deuce. We then got back to our winning
ways, with a dominant 9-0 win against
Wellington, in a display of tennis that featured
some particularly fine volleying.
Like the 2nds, we found ourselves understrength
down at Canford, but all the games
were played in good spirits and enjoyed by all.
And to round the term off we ran out convincing
7-2 winners against Queen's, with Rebecca
Potter and Anna-Sophie Oertzen losing only six
games in their three sets.
The 4ths won two and lost two, beating Clifton
9-0 and Taunton School 8-1! With many
players back next year, and a good crop of
youngsters coming through, we can look forward
to continuing success for our senior teams.
