A
lthough results didn't always
reflect the standard of the
Under 14s' play, there was
much to feel positive about
when looking back on this
season. Against Blundell's
we won lots of individual games, and Amelia
Evans and Charlotte Dathan had a really close
match against Blundell's second pair, showing
stamina and skill.
We then recorded an excellent first home win
against Clifton, with great play and enthusiasm
from all the team. Flora Evans and Charlotte
Dathan communicated well and played great
strokes from front and back of the court. It
was a determined effort in a close match
against Wellington, and there was some
especially strong play from our first pair.
We found ourselves in a very tough fixture
against Canford, though Charlie Webb and
Melissa McFarlane rose to the challenge, and
all the girls played with determination
throughout. The Millfield match was a terrific
afternoon of tennis, and we went down by only
the narrowest of margins 4-5. But there were
many fine moments of individual tennis to
admire.
We struggled rather against a very good
Sherborne team, but there were some close
games, and Charlie Webb and Flo Main played
particularly well. We were unlucky to go down
4-5 to Queen's, but many of the games went to
deuce and there was some exciting tennis to
watch. And although it was a disappointing
result against Taunton School, there were many
good individual performances, and much
encouragement for next season.
T
he Bs found themselves
frequently up against strong
opposition, but we had our
moments, the highlight
undoubtedly being the 9-0
win over Taunton School!
Against Blundell's we won many games and
fought for every point. Charlie Webb and
Charlotte Mason won an impressive set against
their second pair.
We had a disappointing afternoon though
against a strong Clifton side. It was a good
effort though, and all the girls enjoyed
themselves, despite tough windy conditions.
We battled well throughout against Wellington,
and there was some good tennis played by
Charlotte Smyth and Molly O'Donnell. It was a
great effort from Maddie Hudson and Flo
Johnstone who were playing their first tennis
match for King's!
We produced some fantastic rallies against
Canford, but it was clear they deserved their
win. Millfield too was a tough afternoon, but
we kept going, and most importantly enjoyed
the fixture!
Against Queen's we managed to win lots of
individual games, but overall only one set. The
match was played in a positive spirit though,
and this was to carry us through into the final
fixture, when we finished our season with a
brilliant and thoroughly deserved 9-0 win over
Taunton School! So the term ended with spirits
high, and an eager looking forward to next
season!
