Under
14sT
he Under 14s had a truly
outstanding season, losing
only twice, and averaging 40
points a game while only
conceding 96. A try down in
the opening five minutes
against Canford, we fought back magnificently
with a hat-trick for Archie Watts. Another
scintillating display of expansive attacking
rugby against Clifton saw Laurence May pose a
constant attacking threat, and Ben Vellacott
and Michael Peek were also outstanding.
Rhys Davies had an excellent game against
Plymouth, scoring two tries and six conversions
in the 47-0 win, and though we started poorly
against Blundell's, we still managed to reach
half-time 17-0 in the lead. Stand-out players
Dougie Denton and Laurence May both scored
numerous tries between them in a convincing
59-5 win.
After taking an early lead against Sherborne,
two lapses in concentration put the opposition
too far ahead to catch. We then had our most
disappointing afternoon of the season at
Monmouth, playing some excellent rugby in
patches, but failing to deal with the Monmouth
full-back.
Another awesome performance though against
Queen's saw King's dominate the game in all
areas from start to finish. The highlight of the
game was a huge cross-field kick by Rhys
Davies into the arms of Matt Richards to score,
and Tom Counsell, Will James, Ben Shapland
and Ryan May all had excellent games.
Despite being under-strength through injury
against Taunton School, we still dominated
throughout, with
stand-in players Harry
Catton and Nico Mills
doing a superb job.
After scoring 42
points in just 20
minutes of play
against Bruton, we
were able to bring on
some of the B team
players who had
come along in hope
of a game after their
own game had been
cancelled - a fitting
end to a magnificent
season, with many
more to come!
Henry Robinson offloads in
the tackle during the Bs'
win over Blundell'sT
he Bs showed great promise
in their opening 27-0 victory
over Canford. The five tries
came from Kelvin Choi,
Freeman Lai, Jack Storer, Jake
Fleming and Henry Robinson.
We were taken by surprise though against
Clifton, conceding a try from the very first
scrum of the game. However we rallied well to
score three tries of our own before half-time,
and ran out eventual 31-10 winners.
A slow start against Plymouth resulted in a
tight opening half. After the interval though we
stamped our authority on the game, and tries
came for Henry Robinson, Eric Ko, Joe Fender,
Harry Billing, William Bayless, and two for
Kelvin Choi. Continuing our unbeaten run
against Blundell's, we were solid in defence
and showed some clinical finishing. Kelvin
Choi scored three excellent tries, with Joe
Fender, Jack Storer, Jake Fleming and Jack
Ferguson the remaining try scorers.
Harry Catton was particularly impressive against
Sherborne, but in the end the pressure told.
The Bristol Grammar game was a hard-fought
contest which went right down to the wire. The
bigger opposition pack dominated for much of
the game, but with ten minutes to go we scored
an equalising converted try. However a lapse in
concentration allowed Bristol to crash over in
the corner and secure the win.
We returned to our winning ways against
Queen's, running in five tries, all by different
players. And in the final match of the season
against Taunton School, we played our best
rugby of the season, using our pace out wide.
Jake Fleming had an excellent game scoring six
tries, and Henry Robinson kicked six conversions,
to round off our season with a 52-0 win.
