Chindit
Camp

rom having water fights with
NCOs to hiding in ferns covered
in cam cream, Chindit Camp was
jam packed with excitement.
On Sunday 5th July the Chindits
departed from King's and arrived
at camp all pumped and ready to go.
Straightaway we were putting up tents and
ready for the afternoon's fun.
Throughout the week we were in our different
sections and were awarded points for missions.
On Monday morning we were blindfolded,
dropped off in the middle of nowhere and told
to get back to camp in the pouring rain! We all
had great fun on our adventures; some took
longer than others and who knows where
Francesco Roggia's GPS went!
In the evenings at base camp we had the
pleasure of entertaining an NCO, the 5th and
6th form pupils, to supper in our section tents;
luckily for the NCOs I think most of our cooking
was up to scratch. The NCOs made the week
so much fun, and thanks to them the tents
didn't burn down - who left that kettle on?
Polly!
The best part of the camp was definitely the
24-hour exercise; a smaller camp had to be
set up in our sections away from base camp,
and we had to survive on the ration packs.
Surprisingly, they were actually very nice,
especially the girlie Yorkie bars!
On the first 24-hour exercise a scavenger hunt
took place; Dougie Denton seemed to run for
ever and ever! That evening the camp needed
to be defended from NCOs and teachers; the
green section had cammed up and were hiding
in the ferns ready for the ambush! As the
mosquitoes came out and it started to get dark,
the action commenced, but none of the enemy
got into our camp; next year I think they need
some more practice!
However the next morning, having slept on it,
they got their own back when we left our section
camp unattended. The Chindits now had to
sneak back into their own campsites. Even
though the NCOs had walkie-talkies, Dougie
Denton and Will James managed to get back in
via the river, but they were very wet indeed!
Thankfully, on Wednesday we joined the other
merry campers at Butlins and had the longest
showers ever! Then all the girls went and
bought Ben and Jerry's ice cream and felt very
greedy but satisfied when we had finished it!
We got back in time for the very dark and scary
Night Fright!
