T
he 2nds opened their season
with a terrific game against
Cheltenham, an exciting
contest between two evenlymatched
sides. Charles
Morris combined well with
Will Smith to set up our goal, and Grant Little
was outstanding in defence. Will Everett went
on to record a well-deserved hat-trick against
Queen's in our 3-0 win. Ricco Yeung played
extremely well in goal, capping his display with
a penalty stroke save.
It was an excellent performance to draw 2-2
against a very strong Millfield side. Goals by
Charles Morris and Callum Stonier were the
highlights of a tremendous game of hockey.
But we then went on to have a disappointing
afternoon against a strong Wellington side.
Again we created lots of chances that we failed
to convert.
Against Canford we started brightly enough and
came close to scoring before Canford scored
twice on the break. We worked hard though,
with Tom Dunham in defence and Ben
Broadhurst in attack the stand-out players.
Ricco Yeung was again outstanding in goal
against Bruton, Will Smith and Will Everett our
goalscorers in the 2-2 draw.
We finished our season with some intelligent
hockey against Taunton School, which brought
a hat-trick for Charlie Morris. Good defence by
David Richmond, Tom Dunham, Grant Little
and Simon Baker ensured a very satisfying win
to round the term off in style.
W
ith the Cheltenham
game lost to a frosty
pitch, and the
Sherborne fixture
cancelled due to
heavy snow, the 3rds
had to settle for just five matches, losing just the
once, away at Canford. We got our season off to
a dominant start with a convincing 3-2 win over
Queen's. Goals came from Alex Clarke, Bertie
Broughton and Nils Gross-Fengels.
Against Wellington we found the back of the
net six times in a skillful display, the team
clinical in attack. The highlight of the
afternoon was a hat-trick for Nils GrossFengels.
In our one defeat against Canford we
had a fair few chances, hitting the post,
skimming the bar, and then being denied by
the Canford keeper. Felix Ameye was man of
the match.
It was a sterling effort against Bruton, a match
we dominated throughout to win 7-2. Bertie
Broughton scored a hat-trick, while Nils GrossFengels,
Alex Clarke and Matt Simpson also
found the back of the net. Against Taunton
School we found ourselves behind after just 45
seconds, but came back soon after. We did
well to produce another comeback, this time
from 3-1 down, and could have taken the
game in the final minutes, but in the end had
to settle for the draw, to end a thoroughly
enjoyable though slightly truncated season!
