he Under 15s enjoyed a really
positive start to their season,
with pre-season training
obviously playing a part in a
close 6-3 win over Blundell's;
Charlotte Palmer and Tory
Clark didn't drop a set all afternoon! These
two were again to the fore against Clifton,
reading each other's positioning well and
playing aggressive and determined tennis to
record another 6-3 victory.
We had to show some spirit against Wellington,
battling through to win 7-2 in deteriorating
weather conditions. Megan Ameye and Hennie
Thomson displayed superb teamwork in some
close matches. Against Canford we produced
some of our most competitive tennis of the
season, with Tory Clark outstanding in her
power and range of shots.
There was another 6-3 win later in the term,
this time against Taunton School in a match
that featured some excellent serving and good
net play. All in all this was a very pleasing
result, with some close, competitive matches.
The Millfield fixture saw another good performance
from first pair Charlotte Palmer and Tory Clark,
who only narrowly lost their final set on a gripping
tie-break. Otherwise the team found the going
quite tough. And these two were in magnificent
form again to ensure an excellent 5-4 win against
Sherborne, while Hermione Warmington and
Amelia Evans played well to win two of their sets.
The final match was a very exciting and
competitive fixture against Queen's, an
afternoon on which we eventually came out on
top 7-2. An excellent way to finish what had
been a highly successful season, and one
which promises much for the future.
T
he Bs enjoyed an outstanding
season, losing just the once to
Sherborne. The very solid
partnership of Megan Ameye
and Hennie Thomson helped
the team through to many a
good win, starting with a most encouraging
performance against Blundell's, a match we
won 6-3. The following week was even better,
with the team dropping only one set in an 8-1
victory over Clifton.
We went on to beat Wellington 5-4; Kitty
McIntosh and Michelle Pearn's first match lasted
an hour, losing narrowly in the tie-break! Then
one of the highlights of the term, a famous win
over Canford, a match in which Hennie Thomson
and Megan Ameye went right through the
afternoon without losing a set. And there was a
rare outing that afternoon for the Cs who put in a
determined performance against strong
opposition.
New partnerships against Taunton School worked
incredibly well, resulting in an efficient 7-2 win -
an excellent way to warm up for another fantastic
performance, this time in beating Millfield 5-4.
The strength of the partnership between Megan
and Hennie kept us going in sweltering heat, and
they went on to win their sets 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.
We found ourselves up against tough opposition
when we played Sherborne, but it was good that
there was another match for the Cs, with
Annabel Lumley sustaining some strong rallies,
and Lucy Dunham playing with focus and moving
around the court well.
We managed to finish the season on a high by
beating Queen's in a really exciting match,
playing a mixture of doubles and singles. We
played with great determination, and managed to
win all our sets, to round off a thoroughly
successful term's tennis. Roll on next year as we
move through to the senior ranks!
