ColtsT
he Junior Colts had something
of a mixed season, though it
was not without its highlights.
Things started well with a
convincing win over King's,
Bruton, who were bowled out
for 142, Guy Jones taking 3 for 19. Dan
Benson and Tristan Marshall put on 60 for the
opening partnership in reply, before Matt
Harden and James Jennings finished things off
to win by seven wickets.
After a respectable performance with the ball
and in the field against Sherborne, we
uncharacteristically collapsed and were
disappointingly bowled out well short of our
target. We then restricted Millfield to 200,
with Ivo Gavin the pick of the bowlers. After a
disastrous first six overs we battled back
through Ollie Gibb, Ivo Gavin and Richard
Turner, who hit two huge sixes, but it was too
little too late.
We had to defend a small total against Clifton,
but did so bravely, making Clifton work for
every run, but in the end we lost by three
wickets. James Dent was the pick of the
bowlers. We bowled with accuracy to restrict
Taunton School to 141; James Jennings shone
with the ball taking four wickets, supported by
some agile fielding. James then batted
patiently for his 72, as Ollie Gibb and Matt
Harden set up victory with ten overs to spare.
We were three down in the first six overs at
Monmouth, but recovered well to finish on
162, James Jennings top scoring with 43,
assisted by Ivo Gavin (30) and Richard Turner
(26 not out). Monmouth were cruising at 80
without loss, but a superb run out by Dan
Benson started the fall of wickets, James Dent
finishing with 5 for 23 and two wickets apiece
for Archie Rose and Hayden Tyler as
Monmouth were bowled out for 132.
T
he Bs started brightly with a
spectacular victory over
King's, Bruton, dismissing the
opposition for just 13, with
wickets for George Bayless
(4), Matt Jaffa (3) and Omar
Hamaoui (2). The batsmen needed just nine
balls, yes, nine balls for victory, Frazer Chown
finishing the match with a six over the pavilion!
Chasing Sherborne's total of 173, we started
slowly and in the end fell 37 runs short. Matt
Jaffa top scored with 49 not out. It was a
steady start too against Millfield, but we then
unfortunately lost our way, eventually being
bowled out for just 48. Despite excellent
bowling from George Bayless and Lewis Morris,
our total was never really enough.
Against Clifton we were beaten rather
convincingly by much stronger opposition, and
we lost too against Taunton School, despite a
useful 25 from Lewis Morris and some
accurate bowling by Joe Dalton.
But the season turned full circle, as we beat
Monmouth by a massive margin. Lewis Morris
scored a superb century in our total of 172 for
5 in a rain-restricted total of just 20 overs!
Charles Marshall took four wickets and Lewis
Morris three, with great catches from Harry
Heal and Josh Lambert, as we bowled out
Monmouth for just 29 to win by 143 runs!
