T
he Junior Colts got off to a
storming start in the opening
fixture against Canford, with
quick ball from a breakdown
resulting in an early try for
Elliott Chambers. Canford's
powerful pack soon achieved dominance
though, and we found it difficult to maintain
momentum. The set scrum against Clifton was
much improved, but we were up against wellorganised opposition.
A considerable improvement in our play and
much more determination were rewarded with
a 19-12 victory against Plymouth. Good
support work and interplay between backs and
forwards led to tries for Harry Hudson (2) and
Todd Barrett, and there could have been more.
The Blundell's pack was too big, too strong and
too direct really, though centres Archie Rose and
James Walsh did well in organising the backs'
defence. We showed far more spirit against
Sherborne, and produced periods of organised
and aggressive rugby. Although the opposition
were bigger and more powerful, our set piece
went well and the backs were strong in defence.
We dominated possession for the first quarter
at Bristol Grammar, which led to a wellexecuted try
by Elliott Chambers. However
penalties conceded at the breakdown put us
under pressure, and we gave away some soft
tries. It was a very spirited performance
though against Monmouth, and we showed
what can be achieved when ball is secured and
the backs are given time and space.
Against Queen's we turned in our best team
performance of the season, with fluent interplay
between forwards and backs resulting in tries
aplenty. There was almost total control at the
set piece, and support levels were top-class.
Though the Bruton game was a very stop-start
game, we still managed 24 points without
reply - a very pleasing way to finish the
season.

Harry Heal outstrips the
cover defence during the Bs'
40-7 win over CanfordT
he Bs started and ended their
season in great style, a 40-7
victory the result of the
opening fixture against Canford.
Tries came from Tristan
Marshall (2), Charles Marshall,
Matt Jaffa, Hamish Miller and skipper Ivo Gavin.
Against Clifton we were faced with a stronger
more powerful side, but much of the match was
evenly contested, and King's grabbed a wellconstructed try
in the dying minutes.
Against Blundell's too we faced a much heavier
pack, but our backs' ferocious blitz defence
consistently stopped the opposition behind the
gainline. Matt Jaffa scored our try, with Tristan
Marshall converting. In an evenly-matched
contest with Bristol Grammar, Ivo Gavin ran
round at least five defenders to score, and
Tristan Marshall scored a well-worked blindside
try. James Jennings was dangerous in attack,
and Greg Albery gritty in the pack. There were
fine performances too against Monmouth.
James Jennings capped a fine team effort by
sliding in for a well-executed try towards the
end.
It was a true exhibition of 15-man rugby
against Queen's. Tristan Marshall finished with
a personal points tally of 23 in the 51-0 win,
and there were tries for Ivo Gavin, Lewis Morris
and Todd Barrett. The season ended though
with an epic encounter against Taunton School.
A superb backs move resulted in an
outstanding early score for Robert Miller, after
which we lost concentration to trail 5-10 at the
interval. Todd Barrett scored a fantastic
individual try midway through the second half,
but it was left to Matt Jaffa to seal the 24-20
victory in the dying minutes. It was two tricky
conversions by Tristan Marshall in the end that
separated the sides.
