T
he Old Aluredian Club is the alumni
association of King's College, and
exists to ensure that former pupils
remain in contact with both the school
and each other, as well as promoting and
supporting the school. The Club was
founded in 1904 and organises a
Reunion Dinner in Taunton and a London
Reception each year, together with many
other social and sporting events. The OA
Club Office is located in the centre of the
school and welcomes visitors throughout
the year.
The Annual Reunion Dinner was held in
November 2011 at King's College, with
drinks in The Philip Richards Library
followed by supper in the new classroom
of the future called 'The Hub'. A splendid
meal was concluded with a slide show
from the Archives.
Our London Reception in March 2012 was
held in the unusual setting of HMS
President - not a ship but a land base next
to Tower Bridge. This impressive venue,
occasionally used by very senior admirals
for prestigious events and for the Queen
to disembark at the conclusion of the
Royal Jubilee River Pageant, had a
sensational view of the river and of Tower
Bridge. We were very well looked after by
our hosts and were also given a
professional view of the contemporary
roles of the modern navy by the Royal
Navy presentation team. An excellent
evening enjoyed by everyone.
At the end of March, nearly 100 OAs,
pupils and parents attended the Hong
Kong Reception, generously hosted by
Victor Chu OA. There was also a
reception in Singapore hosted by Justin
Chippendale OA and Headmaster of King's
Hall School.
