A
2-1 win against Wellington was an
encouraging start to the season.
Grace Murray scored two excellent
goals in the second half to secure the
win, but player of the match was Pearllan
Cipriano for her tireless running and
excellent distribution.
It was a very competitive game against
Taunton School - we had more of the ball,
but struggled to break down a wellorganised
Taunton defence. Our goal
came from a ball played into the D by
Grace Murray and finished in style by
Antonia Garton-Sprenger. Emma Smith
made a fine save late on to ensure our 1-0
win.
Our defence was kept busy by strong
Queen's opposition, but we were moving
the ball around with pace and creating our
own scoring opportunities. Queen's took
the lead with a breakaway goal followed
by a second, and though we battled hard,
their defence held firm. Player of the
match was Emma Smith who had a great
game in goal.
We drew an excellent game of hockey
against Cheltenham, coming back from
2-0 down. We were rewarded with a good
strike by Pippa Smith just before half-time,
and the final minutes of the match saw
Antonia Garton-Sprenger put Iona FrithFletcher
through to score the crucial
equalising goal.
It was another very competitive game
against Sherborne - we opened the
scoring after a well-worked move was
finished off by Antonia Garton-Sprenger,
but Sherborne were quick to reply. After
the interval Pearllan Cipriano pounced on
a loose ball in the circle to fire the ball
home for the winning goal.
Against a very strong Clifton side we
conceded several times in the opening ten
minutes. The second half though showed
a much improved performance - Emma
Smith was outstanding in goal, and Grace
Murray, Pearllan Cipriano and Katy Smith
all played well.
Against Blundell's we narrowly lost a
closely contested game that could easily
have gone either way. Trailing 1-0 at halftime,
Iona Frith-Fletcher equalised after the
interval, but Blundell's scored twice more
- an Antonia Garton-Sprenger strike gave
us hope, but we just couldn't find the
equaliser.
In our best performance of the season
though we played some excellent hockey
to earn a 0-0 draw against Bryanston.
Players of the match were Grace Murray
and Pearllan Cipriano in an entertaining
game enjoyed by a large crowd under
floodlights.
T
he Bs started their season by losing
a close game against Wellington -
we had plenty of chances, but just
couldn't quite find the back of the net! At
Taunton School we spent the whole game
in the opposition half, but couldn't
convert any of our chances.
Unfortunately we conceded twice on the
break - Lucinda Elwood was our player of
the match.
After losing to Sherborne, we managed to
hold out until the last ten minutes against
Clifton, when they were finally able to
breach our defence. Player of the match
was India Bannister in goal. The joint
Under 14 and Under 15 Cs improved
throughout their game, with Tara Benson
making some very good saves in goal,
while player of the match Gabriela Bunzl
Cavero had a strong game in midfield.
The highlight of our season though was
the terrific 2-1 win against Blundell's - an
outstanding team performance. In their
game, the mixed Under 14 B and Under
15 Cs conceded early on, but scored
twice in the second half to win an
enjoyable and lively game. And we lost
our final game against Bryanston - but the
Under 14 and Under 15 Cs team drew
2-2!
