92 Boys' Tennis
by Peter Belfield
T
his was a thoroughly successful
season for boys' tennis at King's.
The 1st VI enjoyed excellent wins
against Blundell's, Queen's, Taunton
School, Exeter School and Clifton, but
frustratingly lost 4-5 to Sherborne, having
held a match point in the final set to win
5-4.
The highlight of the term was the annual
OA fixture. The tennis here was of an
exceptionally high standard, but the team
stepped up to the mark and battled hard.
However the strength of the OA team got
the better of us, and they eventually
recorded a narrow 5-4 win.
The 2nd VI too had a good season, with
some excellent wins and some very close
losses. The team improved considerably
over the term, which is very encouraging
for next year.
Some new juniors enjoyed an excellent win
against Castle School, and also had a
good fixture against Taunton School.
Good wishes and many thanks go to
seasoned veterans Rob Ellis, Sam
Matthews, Ivo Gavin and Moritz Poprawe,
who have all made a superb contribution
to tennis at King's during their time here.
Thanks too go to Mr Grindle for helping
with the fixtures this term, and to Will
McKegney for working with the beginners.
