A
pleasing victory against Exeter
School got things off to a good
start, a short corner by Richard
Turner and a Nico Mills strike securing
the win, after some outstanding saves by
Carla Mauersberg. We then had to
recover well from 3-1 down at half-time
against Queen's, thanks to some heroic
defence and some thunderous hitting by
captain Hugo Segrave.
It was goalless at Millfield with just 15
minutes left, when it looked as though the
heroics of the defence might yet inspire
an upset. However Millfield took
advantage of some tired tackling to score
two late goals. And it was another great
effort against a strong Canford side.
Carla Mauersberg excelled again in goal,
while Hugo Segrave and James Winsey
always threatened.
We took the lead against Bryanston
through Frazer Chown, but the opposition
managed to equalise in the dying
moments to earn themselves a 1-1 draw.
Carla Mauersberg's stunning reflex save
was the highlight of the game.
A great team effort was enough to beat a
strong Taunton side 3-1. A clinical short
corner by Hugo Segrave was followed by
two well-taken goals in open play by Jake
Fleming. James Winsey and Hayden Tyler
were especially impressive in defence
while Arthur Keeling had a good game in
midfield.
Against the run of play in our final game of
the season at Clifton we scored first
through a clever move down the right-hand
side which found William Potter who
produced the shot of the match. Despite
Carla Mauersberg's excellent display in
goal, Clifton eventually managed an
equaliser, as we finished our season
honours even.
3rd XI I
t was an error-strewn start to the
season against Queen's, necessitating
a fightback in the second half, and
though we were camped in their D for
most of the half, we failed to convert our
numerous chances.
We enjoyed a fine win though against
Wellington, with goals coming from Richard
Turner (2) and Kelvin Choi. Some
spectacular running and stout defending
by Hayden Tyler ensured we held on to our
lead despite a late fightback by Wellington
- Sam Matthews and Rob Cameron were
particularly effective in midfield, and kept
up a high level of fitness to the end.
It was a gutsy performance down at
Canford - an initial onslaught was halted
by some determined defence led by Eric
Ko and plenty of running from Rob
Cameron and Rob Duncan in midfield. We
struggled really the following Saturday
against a strong Bryanston team, going
down 5-0 in a game in which we never
really managed to get going.
Against Taunton School we reached halftime
level at 1-1, but sloppy defending led
to a series of goals, despite some valiant
efforts by Ted Vickery in goal. Eric Ko
worked hard all afternoon, while Sam
Nixon-Eckersall literally threw himself at
the ball several times. Our goals came
from Alex Grace and James Jennings.
Lloyd Griffiths was excellent in goal
against very skilful Clifton opposition, and
Jordan Clayton ran rings around the Clifton
defence in the second half, but we were
unable to manage more than just the one
goal.
