Aluredian 89
A
fter a somewhat protracted wait for
our season to start, thanks to the
sudden appearance of lakes on the
cricket squares, we finally wielded a bat
in anger against Queen's and soon had
the opposition in trouble at 4 for 2. Early
season rustiness allowed them to reach
108, but Harry Parkin and Taron Ikram
batted sensibly and without alarm to
reach our victory target without loss.
Again, sloppy cricket let Blundell's reach
208, but in reply we started well, with
Ikram and Parkin putting on 92 this time
for the opening stand. Harry batted
throughout to reach 78 not out, but the
star of the show was Will Potter who
smashed 39 from just ten balls!
The Bryanston fixture featured another
outstanding first-wicket stand, this time a
massive 193, with Harry Parkin scoring a
superb 110 not out while Leo GoodmanJones
gave excellent support with his own
55. After an untidy start with the ball,
there were then two wickets apiece for
Henry Robinson, Jack Holmes, Will Potter
and Ben Pritchard as we bowled
Bryanston out for 129.
We beat Taunton School by 42 runs after
reaching 167 from 30 overs. Taron Ikram
and Harry Parkin were again in the runs
with solid 50s, and we then bowled out
the opposition comfortably short of their
target.
And then on the final Saturday of the
season, we travelled to Clifton only to find
conditions unplayable - an apt way to end
our very own rainy season!
T
he 3rds had to wait until nearly halfterm
for their season to start, but
when it did, there was an excellent
win to celebrate against Blundell's, man of
the match Morgan Smith hitting a superb
82. Bing Torrance, Joss Philp and Alex
Grace then bowled tidily and took two
wickets apiece to bowl out Blundell's 95
runs short of their target.
After half-term we managed to restrict
Taunton School to 111 from 20 overs,
Alex Grace the pick of the bowlers here,
along with some useful spin in the rain
from Will Murray and Harry Billing. We
reached their total with five wickets to
spare, Georgina Adcock contributing well
with the bat, as did Will Murray.
With the 2nds heading back down the
motorway from a flooded Clifton, we at
least managed a game back in Taunton.
Economical bowling meant Clifton found
run scoring difficult, and chasing 138 in
reply we started explosively, Tom Powell
hitting 35 from 17 balls! With Morgan
Smith, together they posted the 50
partnership in the fifth over, before Will
Murray blasted 42 from 28 balls, with Joe
Merriweather seeing us safely home in the
17th over. An unbeaten if rather brief
season, led superbly by Tom Counsell who
always made sure everyone was involved
in the game.
