A
fantastic season saw us lose only
once, by just six points to
Monmouth. The first 30 minutes
of the season though were scoreless, as
we took time to impose ourselves on
Canford, but we gradually took control,
Will Potter scoring two tries, and Leo
Goodman-Jones converting one and
adding a penalty.
It was a spirited 12-5 win the following
Saturday against an extremely physical
Clifton side. Running the ball wide, Charlie
Granville and skipper Blaine Tottle finished
off some excellent handling to score our
tries.
We then eked out a hard-fought victory
against a highly-rated Wellington side.
Dominating in the pack, we weren't quite
able to finish off some excellent moves -
but eventually tries came for Will Potter
and Charlie Granville.
It was a great result to win 12-7 against a
much fancied Blundell's side. In a
blistering start, there were tries for Charlie
Granville and Conor Bannister, but
Blundell's came back into things, and we
had to show great doggedness in defence
to close out the match.
A magnificent performance at Cheltenham
saw us absorb everything they could
throw at us in the first half, before we then
came back with two tries from Will Potter
and one each for Laurie Moorhead and
Charlie Granville to win 27-10.
After a comfortable win against Bristol
Grammar School, we enjoyed lots of
possession against Monmouth, but found
it difficult to break down the Welsh
defence - our points came from the boot
of Leo Goodman-Jones, but we went down
12-6.
Once we had settled into our stride
against Queen's we scored some excellent
tries, the best of which were finished off
by Will Potter and Charlie Granville -
Conor Bannister was man of the match.
An excellent second-half display saw us
beat Taunton School 35-15, with some
lovely tries, particularly the two by Henry
Willis. And it was then an outstanding
performance at Exeter School to end our
excellent season. Despite the soggy
conditions, we played Barbarian-style
rugby to score seven tries, with Charlie
Granville grabbing a hat-trick.
A
n excellent start for the Bs against
Canford saw a pleasing turnaround
from the results of the previous
two years. The tries in our 14-10 win
came from Joss Philp and Tom Powell,
Bryn Llewellyn and George Lumley
converting. And it was another
considerable improvement on last year's
result against Clifton, as we held a much
bigger Clifton side for much of the match.
There was an excellent 24-3 win against
Wellington, with all 18 squad members
playing their part. Skipper Charlie
Rodgers led by example in scoring a
brace of tries, Harry Parkin had a great
game at fly-half, and further tries came
from Aaron Hawke and Harry Sharp.
We then had four really tough fixtures in
the middle of our season against
Blundell's, Cheltenham, Bristol Grammar
School and Monmouth, but we got back to
our winning ways against Queen's with
some tremendous tries scored from
broken play. There were strong
performances from Bryn Llewellyn,
George Lumley, Aaron Hawke and Charlie
Rodgers.
In a thrilling end to the season we fell 12-0
behind against Taunton School, but then
fought back to lead 14-12 with tries from
Joss Philp and Ben Pritchard.
Unfortunately Taunton snatched victory in
the dying minutes, but Charlie Rodgers
and Cameron Barclay had outstanding
games.
