A
fter a goalless draw against Exeter
School, we enjoyed a good win at
Queen's with some open, freeflowing
hockey. We had to wait though
until the final three minutes for our
rewards, debutant Harvey Walsh
deflecting home a terrific cross.
At Wellington we looked as though we had
the game in the bag, the midfield
dominating possession with some sharp
passing. After a well-worked equaliser by
Jamie Turvill, we should have extended our
lead, but instead hit the self-destruct
button, and Wellington scored their winner.
Under the cosh for most of the first half,
we allowed Millfield to score three goals in
ten minutes. But a terrific team effort in
the second half saw us pull two goals
back through Ed Keeling and Jamie
Shapland - man of the match was Jamie
Turvill.
Against Canford we created some early
chances, but they scored twice on the
break as we pressed forward - player of
the match was Bertie Preston. At
Bryanston the following Saturday we went
behind against the run of play, and despite
John Hall's leveller from the penalty spot,
we failed to get a grip on the game and
conceded again.
We started well at Taunton School with
some short sharp passing and a neat finish
by Jamie Shapland. Our second came
from a deflection by man of the match
Josh Stickland, but we looked tired after
the break, and came off second best.
Rory Nixon-Eckersall scored our third.
Goals from Rory Nixon-Eckersall and
Gabriel Counsell completed a great
display of hockey against Sherborne in a
fine King's performance which resulted in
an excellent 2-0 win. Counsell seemed to
cover every inch of the pitch in his man of
the match display. And Rory was twice on
the scoresheet again against Clifton.
Further goals from Jamie Shapland and
Gabriel Counsell set up our 4-2 victory, a
terrific end to our season!
T
he Bs took an early lead at
Queen's, but conceded three times
in a crazy five minutes just before
half-time. Henry Breeze scored his
second, set up beautifully by Joe Cooke,
but though we dominated the latter
stages, we couldn't find the back of the
net. Man of the match Zach Spiers made
some great saves in goal.
It was an excellent 5-1 win at Wellington,
with goals for Huw Vaughan-Johns, Joe
Cooke, Kristian Willmott and Henry Breeze
(2). We never really looked in trouble, and
some great saves by Zach Spiers
concluded a fine afternoon's hockey.
We enjoyed much the better of the Millfield
game, and ran out worthy 2-0 winners.
The attack of Huw Vaughan-Johns, Henry
Breeze, Kristian Willmott and Alex Michaels
could easily have scored more than twice,
while captain Rory Smith was outstanding.
We suffered a couple of setbacks against
Canford and Bryanston in the middle of
our season, but it was back to winning
ways at Taunton School - two terrific
goals by Henry Breeze were rounded off
with a last-minute penalty flick by Kris
Willmott.
Unfortunately in our final match against
Clifton, we could only score once from
eight attempts, and were left to rue a lack
of composure in front of goal. This was
the story of the season really, but we
played some very good hockey for much
of the term.
Man of the match Jamie Turvill is
thwarted by a last-ditch effort
from the Millfield goalkeeper
