I
n October Captain Belfield made
history, his Royal Marine section
winning the Sir Steuart Pringle Trophy
for the third year running. Under the
leadership of C Sgt Rob Ellis, with his
2i/c C Sgt Will Johnson, the team cruised
to victory winning several stances.
The Army section entered an all-girl team
led by C Sjt Amelia Evans in the Somerset
Inter-Services Cadet Competition. They
had a great day of competition which
included clay pigeon shooting, archery
and paintballing stances. They were
placed fifth, which was a noteworthy effort
on a very competitive day which included
PT physicals.
The October Field Day was a great success.
The RM section introduced the Endurance
Course to their new recruits on Woodbury,
the Army section had a dry overnight
exercise at Merryfield, with sixth form NCOs
leading stances for the 4th form, and the
5th form cadre perfecting Section Attack
drills. The RN section visited the naval base
at Portsmouth Docks, experiencing naval life
on board HMS Bristol. They walked the
decks of HMS Victory, and sensed the men
who sailed and died with Nelson. The
Chindits practised their pioneering and
navigation skills on the Quantocks, or tested
themselves on the high ropes course and
the rafting lake at Cobb's Cross.
C Sjt Amelia Evans was officially appointed
a Lord Lieutenant Cadet at the annual
ceremony in the Bishop's Palace in Wells
in October, carrying on a long tradition of
successful nominees from King's College.
In the last week of the Easter holidays a
party of cadets and officers enjoyed an
excellent week of Adventure Training in the
Lake District. Captain Belfield's
programme includes sailing, rock
climbing, hill walking and mountain biking,
and is fantastic value for money. It is a
pity that so few cadets opt for this camp
given the variety of activities on offer.
