O
ur season started three weeks into
term with the bowlers reducing
Queen's to 118 all out in 31
overs, Bertie Preston taking three wickets.
Harry Thomas then dominated with the
bat to hit an unbeaten 69 off 46 balls,
including six sixes and seven fours, as we
won by ten wickets.
In another dominant display, we set up a
122-run victory against Blundell's. George
Retter continued his fine form with a wellconstructed
64, however the stand-out
innings was Henry Breeze's excellent 93
not out as we reached 266 for 7.
Blundell's were then bowled out for 144,
with Jamie Turvill (three wickets), Ed
Denton and John Hall the pick of the
bowlers.
We then managed to restrict Bryanston to
131 from their 35 overs, Henry Breeze
bowling superbly to take four wickets. In
reply Bertie Preston scored an unbeaten
61 as we reached our target for the loss
of only two wickets.
It was a convincing win against Taunton
School. We soon had the opposition in
trouble at 66 for 5, but eventually they
reached 180, Bertie Preston and Henry
Breeze the pick of the bowlers. Despite
losing an early wicket, we chased down
the runs comfortably, Preston and Harry
Thomas both hitting excellent halfcenturies.
Against Clifton we were set a challenging
203 - our fielding was once again
outstanding, though the bowling never
quite hit the heights of previous weeks.
Harry Thomas made a confident start to
our innings, but we soon found ourselves
reduced to 60 for 3 and in a spot of
bother. However a century partnership
between Gabriel Counsell and Henry
Breeze put the result beyond doubt, and
we won by six wickets.
T
he Bs opened their season against
Wellington, and reached 116 for 3
from their 20 overs, Callum
McPhee top scoring with 48 and Jamie
Shapland hitting an unbeaten 47.
Ed Blowers then took three wickets as
Wellington could only reach 65 for 7.
Two days later we had another convincing
win, bowling Blundell's out for just 79 with
Jamie Shapland taking three wickets. We
reached our target for the loss of only two
wickets, Callum McPhee top scoring with
44.
After half-term against Taunton School, we
took wickets steadily, and never allowed a
significant partnership to build. Callum
McPhee and Henry Dufosee took four
wickets each, and Callum was then the
star with the bat, hitting an impressive 69
as we won by nine wickets.
When the Clifton game was abandoned
due to rain, it transpired of course that we
had duly completed the very briefest of
unbeaten seasons!
