T
he Junior Colts had a magnificent
season, losing only once, by seven
points away to Cheltenham. In the
opening match Canford generally held the
edge at the breakdown, but the forwards
worked hard and John Hall and Ed
Denton made some good breaks in our
15-0 win. The Clifton fixture saw one of
the best performances in recent years by
a Junior Colts team. The game was won
by the pack in the tight, while Rory
Nixon-Eckersall and Liam Redrup were
the pick of the backs, scoring a brace of
tries each.
Some superb free-flowing rugby against
Wellington resulted in a convincing 51-0
win. Gabriel Counsell was outstanding at
scrum-half, Zach Spiers and Josh
Stickland were the stand-out players in the
pack, and Joe Cooke finished off some
well-worked moves. Rory Nixon-Eckersall
scored two tries in an impressive
performance to beat a physical Blundell's
side. Joe Cooke also crossed the line, but
our defence was outstanding.
Although ending in defeat, it was an
excellent performance against the side
Cheltenham regarded as their best. The
pack in particular was outstanding -
Harvey Walsh was our try scorer.
Alex Madge scored twice in a dominant
display against Bristol Grammar School,
as did man of the match Liam Redrup.
We then travelled to Monmouth, and our
amazing season continued with a 46-19
win - a match we could only draw last
year. Joe Cooke finished off the best try
of the day following excellent work from
the outstanding man of the match, Zach
Spiers. A spirited Queen's side made us
work hard for our 10-5 win in a fiercely
contested match away from home in wet,
slippery conditions. But then normal
service was resumed the following week
against Taunton School, as we recorded
an emphatic 39-17 win - Josh Stickland
was man of the match. And to round off
the term we played with authority, fluency
and skill to outplay Exeter School. Zach
Spiers was not only man of the match, but
player of an outstanding season.

W
ith the As winning 15-0 against
Canford, the Bs managed a
neatly symmetrical start to the
season with a loss by the same scoreline!
And it was tough going too the following
week at Clifton - Ed Denton scored our
try, but there were important
contributions by Eddie Gibb, George
Retter, Eric Tsai, Alex Michaels, Harrison
Wingfield and John Hall.
Avenging last year's narrow defeat against
Wellington, we scored ten tries and won
60-0! Try scorers were Jamie Turvill,
Charlie Niekirk, Ed Denton and George
Retter, with newcomer Royce Tooth
scoring a hat-trick - Callum McPhee
converted six of the tries.
It was a confident display of rugby to beat
Blundell's, the hard work being done in the
first half. Tries came from George Retter
and Dan Dobie, with Ed Denton and Royce
Tooth each scoring twice in the 40-10 win.
After a minor hiccup against Cheltenham it
was honours fairly even in the first half
against Bristol Grammar School, before Ed
Denton and Jamie Turvill opened up the
defence for George Retter to score. He
completed his hat-trick in the second half,
and there was a try too for Royce Tooth.
We managed to hold Monmouth 0-0 the
entire match, before they finally broke
down our defence with just two minutes
remaining - impressive performances from
Royce Tooth, Dan Dobie and skipper
George Retter. After beating Queen's
45-0, we produced our best rugby of the
season at Taunton School to win a high
tempo match 33-0. There were tries for
Ed Denton, Jamie Shapland, Callum
McPhee, Dan Dobie and John Hall.
Against Exeter School we scored ten tries
without reply. In a real team effort, Royce
Tooth scored a hat-trick, and Eric Tsai
scored twice, as we finished our season
playing open, attractive rugby.
