W
e found ourselves a little
overwhelmed in the first half
against Exeter School, but after
reorganising at half-time, we looked a
much stronger side. This improvement
continued the following Saturday at
Queen's, where we were majestic for
much of the game. Beautiful link play led
to three well-taken goals, two by Jack
West and one for Luke Tomkins.
Against Wellington we squandered too
many chances, but still created enough to
score twice without conceding any in
reply, goals coming from George Williams
and Jack West. It was an excellent game
of hockey against Millfield, even though
we lost narrowly 2-1. Luke Tomkins was
our goalscorer, but luck was not on our
side, as there were more goals to be had.
We dominated for long periods of the
Canford game, but could not convert all
our chances. And this clinical touch
continued to elude us at Bryanston, where
we failed to score from ten short corners!
But fortunes changed against Taunton
School, when we won 6-3 in an end-to-end
game, playing some beautiful hockey and
taking full advantage of our chances.
Goal of the game saw Jack Gunningham
put the ball in the top right-hand corner.
There was more terrific hockey from the
outset against Sherborne, winning a
seven-goal thriller 5-2 with a superb hattrick
from Jack West. Our build-up play in
particular was slick and crisp, and captain
Harry Magill was a powerful and hardworking
defender, as indeed he was in all
our games.
Eight goals shared equally was the story
of the action-packed finale to the season,
against Clifton as we came from 4-2 down
with ten minutes left to square the match.
Jack Gunningham scored twice in the final
action of the season.
I
t was a gallant start to the season by
the Bs at Exeter School, as they
pushed the ball forward to get shots
on goal. Man of the match was Jack
Gunningham for a superb first effort in
goal!
We had to fight to the very end against a
physical Queen's side, one breakaway
goal costing us the match. We had some
great chances in the second half, but
despite a terrific team effort, couldn't find
the equaliser.
A superb short corner finished off by
George Willis was enough to earn us a
draw against Wellington the following
Saturday - man of the match was Charles
Parkin.
Outstanding performances by the defence
helped to keep Millfield at bay and the
score down to respectable levels. A
determined second-half performance
prevented Millfield from adding to their
score.
Against Canford we managed to put into
practice many of the things we had
worked on during the week, but we didn't
quite get the result our efforts deserved.
We went on to struggle against a wellorganised
Bryanston side, and despite
man of the match Henry Biggs' efforts we
went down 3-0.
We fought valiantly against Taunton
School, and with one minute to go would
have settled for a 1-1 draw, but
unfortunately we conceded just before the
final whistle. And Clifton proved too
strong really for us, and we lost 4-0 -
however we played with great
determination, finishing off a thoroughly
enjoyable season.
The Cs made great progress as a
side throughout the term, with Chico
Cornudella catching the eye in goal,
and James Crocker working
tirelessly. The highlight of the
season was the 2-0 win against
Taunton School, featuring wellconstructed
goals from Hugo Lyon
and Anson Lau - man of the match
was Hamish Urquhart.
