Madness
by Molly O'Donnell
1: Hello, can you help me?
2: I can try, what do you need?
1: Well the thing is ... I am struggling to remember, deep down
in my mind, what it is that's in there that I cannot find. I
know that there is something, hidden in my thoughts,
though for the life of me I forgot and I'm distraught.
2: Oh, umm, right, okay, well, can you try to think back?
1: Brilliant ... good plan. So I woke up this morning snuggled
in my bed, but as I tried to sing, I fell out on my head. I
thought my feet were broken until I saw my wrist, my feet
were fully normal as I still made a fist.
2: Okay, well, you can remember that far, what next?
1: I clambered to the kitchen, over all my clothes, and went to
the sink to drink from the hose. I grabbed a mug of cereal
to pour into my tea, but then began to realise it wasn't just
for me.
2: Who else was it for?
1: A hard question to answer, that question you just asked, for
sitting right beside me, was a man in a mask. I thought it
might be Batman but then I changed my mind, as Batman
and Robin were the ones I could not find. So I was quite
puzzled as I looked right at this man, but then it came to me
that he was just a fan.
2: A fan of who? You?
1: At first that's what I thought as I stared him in the eye, but
all he wanted to see was a big blueberry pie. So then I
called my frog, to come in and cook, but he was very rude
and threw away my book.
2: What book?
1: My book that I love, the book I cannot lose, the book that
tells me, exactly what to choose. When I want a doorbell,
or a new dog, I look in the book and end up with a hog. The
hog is good for nothing but I keep it in my house, because it
helps with everything, as does the mouse.
2: Are you closer to remembering?
1: Remembering what? Why am I here? Have you stolen me?
Oh dear.
2: Of course I haven't, don't be so silly.
1: I'm not being silly, you're the one who's blue, thanks for your
time but I've had enough of you. The next time I want help,
I'll ask someone nice, you are just as useless as a pepper in
a spice. With this done and dusted, I'll be on my way. On
behalf of me and Frodo I bid you good day.
