W
e got our campaign off to a
winning start at Wellington,
with some excellent shooting
and intercepting in the second quarter.
We pulled eight goals ahead, and never
let Wellington back into the match. It
was honours even at half-time against
Queen's, but they pulled ahead in the
third quarter, and despite a terrific effort,
we couldn't quite get back on terms.
The final score of the West Buckland
game does little to reflect the effort put in,
as the whole team played with
tremendous spirit and determination. And
again, we got scant reward from the final
scoreline against Millfield - we managed
to deny them the ball for long periods of
the match, but couldn't capitalise on our
chances.
It was a different story though against
Exeter School, when we took the lead
early in the match, and kept in front
throughout. The third quarter proved
decisive as we scored six times whilst
allowing Exeter only two successful
attempts on goal. Another good
performance followed against Stoodley
Knowle, with some intelligent marking and
passing. This helped us gain a firstquarter
lead, which we managed to hold
on to for the rest of the match to win
12-10.
The Blundell's game was a very even
match played in a superb spirit - we
continued to show an excellent
improvement in our all-round game, and
put in a lot of energy and commitment.
Another thrilling game at Clifton saw endto-end
play throughout. We were
competitive on court, but the opposition
were more efficient and clinical in their
finishing.
The Taunton School fixture was a
thoroughly enjoyable game with which to
end the season, played in a good spirit
with lots of end-to-end play. It was an
outstanding effort from all the girls,
particularly Alex Taylor.
T
he Bs had a remarkable and
resounding win to start their season
- a 22-2 victory against Wellington
promised well for the rest of term! Things
continued on a positive note the following
Saturday against Queen's, where we won
a fantastic match, proving ourselves fast
and strong interceptors. Great teamwork
and a fighting spirit led to some
impressive goals.
We played with skill, agility and good
communication against Exeter School, led
well by Grace Murray. We passed with
pace and marked closely - an excellent
16-8 win.
It was a valiant effort against Blundell's,
and we defended well in a fast-paced
game, but it was not to be our day. And
there was a first outing for the Cs, who
won with some great teamwork, especially
from Xena Kirby and Kuumba Agbami.
Back to the Bs, and a thriller at Clifton!
Picking up the pace in the final quarter,
some skilled shooting saw us inch into the
lead to win 15-14. Great shooting by Sam
Loomie and brilliant defending by Xena
Kirby were the cornerstones of the Cs'
victory - the final score 16-7 in a
tremendous team performance.
A convincing win against Taunton School
was a terrific way for the Bs to end their
season, our skill and movement outmanoeuvring
the opposition.
A determined effort with some very
effective interceptions - player of the
match was Samantha Loomie. And the Cs
ended their season unbeaten with a 14-6
win. Players of the match were Rhiannon
Williams and Sophie Gibb for their 100%
effort throughout the game.
