W
e made a strong start to our
season against Wellington,
winning 8-1 with each pair
finishing off points ruthlessly - player of
the afternoon was Annie O'Neill. It was a
similar story away at Blundell's where we
won 7-2. Annie O'Neill and Leea Dod
dropped only two games all afternoon!
But we then had a much tighter affair
when we just lost a closely fought match
against Millfield. A late flurry of wins at
least meant we ended the day on a high.
We then came second against a very
strong Canford side - highlights though
were Annie O'Neill and Leea Dod just
losing on a tiebreak and some determined
tennis by Beth Horsham and Emily Palmer.
In a strong display from all three of our
pairs, we beat Taunton School
comfortably 8-1 in glorious hot conditions.
Beth Horsham and Emily Palmer produced
a great win over Taunton's second pair,
while player of the match was Tara Bell.
Tara again and her partner Elena Close
produced an outstanding final match
against their opposite pair at Sherborne to
win their deciding tiebreak, which set the
tone for a stunning display to beat
Queen's 9-0, with Tara Bell and player of
the match Elena Close winning two of their
three sets 6-0.
The final match of the season against
West Buckland finished on a real high,
when we managed to put out four pairs in
a full afternoon of tennis. India Gavin and
Olivia Murray continued their winning
ways, and had a really close match
against the opposition's first pair, clinching
the final game to win 6-5. A 9-7 victory
overall and a great way to finish the
season.
T
he Bs got off to a winning start
against Wellington, winning 6-3,
with performance of the afternoon
coming from India Gavin and Olivia
Murray, who won their three sets 6-0,
6-1, 6-0. And it got better the following
week when we enjoyed an outstanding
whitewash against Blundell's, with strong
performances from every pair. India
Gavin and Olivia Murray continued their
winning streak, dropping only one game
in three sets, closely followed by Lucie
McFarlane and Phoebe Smith.
There was some fantastic tennis in our 8-1
win against Millfield. In an outstanding
team performance, player of the match
was Emily Glazebrook who stepped into
the team for the first time this term and
produced some excellent tennis. The
Canford result went down to the final
round of games - Olivia Murray and India
Gavin continued their unbeaten run with a
fantastic 7-5 win over their opposite pair.
These two were once more to the fore as
we beat Taunton School 8-1 in a terrific allround
team performance. Olivia Murray
and player of the match India Gavin
dropped just one game in their three
matches. The Cs had their first match of
the term - a great partnership between
Polly Chelton and player of the match
Louisa Cave won all three matches, as we
eventually won 5-4.
We served particularly well at Sherborne
and led the fixture 2-1 after the first round
of matches, but Sherborne coped more
effectively with the heat - player of the
match was Phoebe Smith. The Cs worked
hard against strong opposition - Georgia
Drew and Jennifer Stapleton particularly
caught the eye, while player of the match
was Linda Brosig.
In the final match of the term for the Bs,
we conceded only 12 games out of a
possible 36 to beat Queen's 9-0 like the
As. Annabelle Hall and player of the match
Olivia Rose produced a great performance
against their second pair to win 6-0.
