W
e started the season confidently
enough, though Wellington
soon began to find some
rhythm. But the defence held out
strongly, with Gina Harvey and Nancy
Rowe catching the eye as we stretched
away to a 15-10 win.
In a stunning display of netball, we won
the first quarter 8-2 against Queen's and
never looked back. Tenacious centre
court play by Beth Horsham and
consistently accurate shooting by Alicia
Mileham and Leea Dod enabled us to pull
away and win comfortably in the end.
After a tight first quarter against West
Buckland, we soon began to dominate,
finding a good rhythm and getting plenty
of balls into the circle. Nancy Rowe put in
an acrobatic performance, while Alicia
Mileham dominated the centre court.
Shooting proved something of a lottery
against Millfield because of the very strong
wind, and they pulled away in the final
quarter, but we fought with excellent spirit
and tenacity right through to the end.
We dominated Exeter School from the
start, and prevented them from finding
any kind of rhythm - Leea Dod seemed
hardly to miss a shot all afternoon! And it
was another convincing win at Stoodley
Knowle, dominating from the first quarter
and never looking back.
Amazingly, the Blundell's fixture was our
first home game of the season, and we
demonstrated just how netball should be
played, using the full space of the court,
timing our runs well, and successfully
converting attacking plays into goals -
spectators said it was like watching ballet!
It was a very evenly matched affair at
Clifton, both teams fighting hard to control
the play. A tenacious defensive display by
Gina Harvey and Nancy Rowe kept Clifton
out in the final quarter, and we took the
lead in the final minute - a well-deserved
win after a stunning team effort.
We took an early lead against Taunton
School, which increased with each quarter
as we finally won 23-11. It was another
terrific team performance, an impressive
final scoreline against our local rivals, and
a spectacular end to an outstanding
season!
T
he Bs narrowly lost an evenly
contested game against Wellington,
in a spectacularly low scoring
match for netball! Both sides took time
to settle, and it was down in the end to
who could take their chances - there
were only six goals all afternoon!
We went on the attack from the start at
Queen's, and held a seven-goal lead at
half-time, thanks to some great shooting
by Jennifer Stapleton. Queen's though
had to be kept at bay by some excellent
interceptions from Annie O'Neill and Jess
Sones - a 17-15 win and a massive
improvement on the previous week.
After a very competitive match against
Exeter School, which they won really in the
final quarter, we won another close
encounter against Blundell's. It was not
until the third quarter that we were able to
pull away, working well together to forge a
strong lead from which we didn't look
back.
We just lost a competitive match against a
physical Clifton side. We were in
contention right to the very end, but
couldn't quite get our noses in front. The
Cs meanwhile eked out a hard-fought
victory, with some particularly impressive
goal scoring in the final quarter.
To end our season, we showed great
character to come back in the last ten
minutes against Taunton School and force
the win - an excellent victory to round off
an excellent season! Netball
