showed all of the determination and goal
scoring ability which our previous teams had
taught us. Tory Clark was player of the match.
Overall we played some very successful hockey
and gained a huge amount of confidence, as
well as coming together as a team, helping us to
face the upcoming season with determination.
The netball team had a very successful tour,
winning five of their six matches. The first was
against Langa in Cape Town where the team
put up a tough fight against a good side, for
whom their coach was playing - in a dominant
performance! - due to diminished numbers.
However this did not seem to faze Jessica
Kennedy who was renamed 'The Transformer'
after some unique marking tactics.
Unfortunately we lost narrowly 19-22, but the
team showed some promising play for the rest
of the tour.
Our next fixture was slightly easier, against
Bridge House, where we won 16-2. Player of
the match was awarded to Flora Evans.
Reddam, an all girls' school in Cape Town,
were our next opponents. We set off to a slow
start, but soon the match turned into a really
close and highly competitive game. We
entered the last quarter only one goal up and
after a fantastic team effort we won 17-12.
After having flown to Durban, we were met by
the St John's DSG team. After a tense first
quarter with a score of 2-1, the team really
pulled together in the second half and
dominated, not letting a single goal in and
ending the game with a 31-3 win, our biggest
win of the tour. This was a particularly exciting
game as we played our younger team, in
preparation for next season, which is looking
very hopeful.
We won our last netball game of the tour 28-8
against Uplands College, with the whole team
showing great tenacity and quick, accurate
passing and play. There was a great
atmosphere, as many boys and girls from the
school came to watch, adding to the pressure.
It was here that we played our final game with
our captain Alice Davies. We also played our
last game with Rosie Parr; both have been a
vital part of the team this year and will be
greatly missed.
Overall, the netball team had a fantastic,
enjoyable and very successful tour which has
left us all very excited for the season to come.
From hockey and netball to Zulu dancing with
warriors, we were all shown the very best of
South Africa. South Africa 2011 could not have
happened without the tremendous time and
effort the members of staff put in, and from all
the girls on tour we thank you very much.
