Wellington were our
first opponents,
and we kick-started
our season with a
convincing 27-9
victory, all the team
playing with confidence and skill. Megan
Ameye was player of the match for her
awareness and support play. It was another
commanding display at Queen's, as we
outplayed the opposition to win 25-11. Tilly
Barker was fantastic in defence, and once
again Megan Ameye fed some great balls into
the circle for our in-form shooters Melissa
McFarlane and Charlotte Smyth.
Skillful defence by Tilly Barker against Millfield
and impressive shooting by Flo Main led to a
comfortable victory - King's netball at its very
best! Against West Buckland we played
confidently from the start, with good
communication on court ensuring we
dominated possession. All members of the
team played with commitment and
considerable agility in our 16-10 win.
After disappointing losses to Canford and
Blundell's, we dominated from the start against
Stoodley Knowle, and by half-time held a
promising 14-5 lead, with Tilly Barker and Elle
Bracher restricting their shooters to speculative
long shots. In attack both Katy Preece and
Melissa McFarlane had excellent games, and
thoroughly deserved their joint player of the
match awards.
Tied 5-5 at the end of the first quarter against
Clifton, King's proceeded to dominate the rest
of the match in a thrilling display of attacking
netball. Passing was accurate, shooting
superb, and the defence rock solid. After a
slow start, we levelled the Taunton fixture
11-11 at half-time. We were always then in
control, with Katy Preece and Melissa
McFarlane working well together in the circle to
keep the scoreboard ticking over. Excellent
defence by Hannah Cartwright, Tilly Barker and
Elle Bracher saw us home to a 19-16 win.
Against Colyton we edged into an 18-17 halftime
lead. Our shooters then exploded into life,
scoring 13 goals in the final quarter to win
31-19 and finish our season on a real high!

t was a winning start too for the 3rds at
Wellington. Player of the match Molly
O'Donnell defended superbly, Hatti
Mason supplied accurate passes into
the circle, and Katie Blowers worked
well in attack. We had a closely fought
game at Queen's. We led 13-7 at half-time,
and managed to maintain our lead for the rest
of the game. But loose passing at Canford
resulted in a lot of turnover of possession, which
Canford happily capitalised on. Katie Blowers
worked hard in mid-court, connecting well with
Hatti Mason to feed the ball into the circle.
In an excellent game of netball against
Blundell's, we narrowly lost out 26-23. We led
18-17, with some excellent passing and
movement by Danni Harvey and Megane Scott,
but Blundell's capitalised on a turnover ball to
edge in front. The Clifton game went down to
the last minute in a nailbiting finish! Flo Main
and Danni Harvey forged a great shooting
partnership, which just edged us home 27-26.
And it was another nailbiting match against
Taunton School which was fought out to the
final seconds of the game. A fantastic period of
play in the final quarter saw us draw level with
excellent play by Hatti Mason and Katie
Blowers, but Taunton managed to convert the
final centre of the game. Overall, a really
successful season, with some great last-minute
finishes! 3rd VII
