We started our
season with an
exciting game at
Canford, with
excellent tries
scored by both
teams. We felt we had done enough when
Rhys Davies slotted a 40-metre dropped goal,
but Canford scored an injury-time try, converted
from the touchline.
With massive delays on the M5, we had to
endure a two and a half hour journey to Clifton,
and quickly found ourselves 21-0 down. Rhys
Davies and Matt Peek were the stand-out
players in an exciting fightback, but it wasn't
quite enough.
Weaknesses in our defence to start with against
Wellington led to an anxious period in the
game. However we finally began to play as a
team, using the wide pitch to good effect.
Rhys Davies was man of the match, and
Francesco Roggia had a good debut for the As.
It was an easy 54-5 win against Blundell's,
with the return of Dougie Denton making a
significant difference to the backs. Ryan May
was the pick of the forwards, and Francesco
Roggia looked sharp on the wing.
We had a close game against unbeaten
Cheltenham College who were yet to concede a
point in their season! Laurence May and
Kelvin Choi crossed the line, but their stronger
pack came back well to score three late tries in
the second half.
Having lost to Monmouth for the past two
seasons, we turned that round with a
magnificent 22-20 away win. In an
outstanding team performance, Laurence May
controlled the game from fly-half, and there
were tries from Dougie Denton and Archie
Watts, while Rhys Davies struck a 40-metre
penalty in the dying moments to seal the win.
It was another excellent performance at
Queen's, with good defence from Ryan May
and Jack Storer. We scored four well-worked
tries in a very satisfying 22-0 win. Our season
ended though in defeat at the hands of a very
strong Taunton School side - but we had many
moments of good rugby, with Jonny Parsons
and Archie Watts crossing the line for our tries.
T
he Bs began with a
comfortable defeat at the
hands of a superior Canford
side. There were however
notable performances by
Conor McAndie, Oliver Driscoll
and Francesco Roggia. 15-0 down by halftime
at Clifton, strong running in the second
half by double try scorer Francesco Roggia and
Tristan Drew brought us back into the game to
lose by just three points. There were further
tries for Alex Grace and Ollie Driscoll.
We started slowly against Wellington, but were
much better in the second half, and good
teamwork led to hat-tricks for both Conor
McAndie and Will Bayless. At Blundell's we
conceded too many soft tries early on and
found it difficult to get back into the game.
Conor McAndie and Tristan Drew though scored
well-worked tries either side of half-time.
It was a much improved display against Bristol
Grammar School, standing up well to a much
bigger Bristol side. But after half-term we were
outplayed really at Monmouth, though we did
score a consolation try through Tristan Drew.
Despite putting out a scratch side at the last
minute against Queen's, the team gelled
quickly and put the opposition under pressure
from the start - the result, a rather one-sided
58-0 victory. And in a brilliant end to our
season, we found ourselves 12-0 down against
Taunton School, but fought back with two tries
from Tristan Drew and a brilliant conversion by
Corbett Sykes-Moore. In the final minutes a
quickly-taken tap penalty led to the winning try
in the corner - a great finale to the season!
