placed teams were the senior girls (third) and
senior boys (second), with all the usual
suspects picking up wins together with a
resurgent Robin Danaher (javelin) and some
excellent performances from Alex Madge and
Blaine Tottle (sprints), Henry Willis and Anton
Burkhard-Meier (800 metres), and Simon Le
Gallais (hurdles). The star of the day however
was Alan Lennox-Boyd (sprinter) who did many
extra events, culminating in the 1500 metres
and the relay - a great help to the team.
At the remaining events, the junior boys' 3 x
800 metre relay team were winners at the
Queen's Relays, the junior girls' relay team won
at the Millfield match, where there were also
wins for Maddie Robinson (javelin), Alicia
Mileham (hurdles) and Henry Willis (800
metres), and personal bests kept coming for
Olivia Pittman and Blaine Tottle (both 200
metres and jumps). At the final fixture at
Taunton School, Jen Stapleton, Oliver Fox,
Simon Le Gallais, Alex Madge and Charlie
Granville pulled off big wins, though the hosts
eventually secured victory.
At the South West Schools event, King's athletes
appearing for Somerset included Joe Cooke (1st
in the high jump and a personal best), Jordan
Webb (1st in the triple jump and another
personal best), Robin Danaher (2nd in the javelin
and a personal best), Charlie Granville (2nd in
the javelin), Amelia Evans (3rd in the 1500
metres) and Elle Bracher (a personal best),
together with Hilary Moorhead and Issy Germain.
At the English Schools' National
Championships, Robin Danaher joined Joe
Cooke, Gussy Hydleman and Charlie Granville,
and tried valiantly to overcome his longstanding
injury, vowing to return stronger than ever in
2012. All seemed to feel the effects of the
long journey to Gateshead but will need to
prepare for the same venue in 2012.
At the school sports day, five of the houses
picked up age group wins, with Tuckwell also
collecting the relay cup. Individual victor or
victrix ludorum awards were also spread
around: Hilary Moorhead (Carpenter), Katy
Preece (Meynell), Alicia Mileham (Taylor),
Jordan Webb and Joe Cooke (Tuckwell), Archie
Watts and Will Potter (Woodard), and George
Chapman (King Alfred).
A very busy term was helped along by the
invaluable coaching of Mrs Cole, Mrs Berry,
Mr Shaw, Mrs Singleton and Rhys LlewellynEaton,
and the invaluable help of Mr Lee and
Mr Round.

The swimming squad had a good start to the term with a very close
three-point win against Wellington in a season opener friendly. All of the
new swimmers showed great promise as they settled into the routines
quickly. Clifton brought a weakened side for their first fixture, but the
squad showed no mercy and managed a win in every event. The juniors
stepped up to the mark, with some of them swimming as seniors as we
too were missing some swimmers.
The three-way match against Blundell's and a full-strength Clifton was
again very tight, but King's came out on top in terms of points, with 17
personal bests needed to secure victory. Unfortunately the matches
against Taunton School and Queen's did not go so well, but again eight
personal bests came out of some very closely fought races, and the
squad was getting stronger all the time.
As always the Meade King Cup was keenly fought, and contained some of
the closest finishes for a long time. The whole squad swam extremely
well, and faced with some talented club swimmers managed to come
second in most of the events. All in all a very pleasing season by all,
with lots of hard work along the way, and a whole host of personal bests.
