I
n the first match of the season at
Sherborne, good bowling by Ben
Pritchard in particular restricted
Sherborne to 153, and though we
batted well as a team, we fell just 16
runs short of the target. It was a wellfought
game against Millfield, the opposition
reaching 236 for 4 in their allotted overs. We
were always a bit behind the run chase though,
and were eventually bowled out for 209.
In our most complete performance of the
season so far, we amassed 216 for 5 at
Queen's, thanks to an opening partnership of
104 between Harry Parkin and Leo GoodmanJones.
Queen's lost wickets steadily, and were
bowled out for 106, Ben Pritchard taking 4
for 21.
Chasing 208 at Blundell's, we were always just
behind the run rate - Harry Parkin though
made 48 and Hamish Manger 50 not out.
At Clifton we amassed 244 for 6, 54 of the
runs in sixes! Will Potter smashed 51 not out,
and Will Potter, Joe Merriweather, Jack Holmes
and Hamish Manger took two wickets each, as
Clifton subsided to147 all out.
We made a steady start against Taunton
School, reaching 65 from 19 overs, but 123
runs were then added in the following eleven
overs, with Will Potter hitting 59 and Tom
Powell 53, 42 of which came in sixes!
Taunton were then bowled out for 145, with
Hamish Manger picking up 4 for 22.
At Monmouth, we found conditions hardly
conducive to fast scoring - wickets fell regularly
and the run rate never really got going. With
the better of the conditions, Monmouth reached
their target comfortably, despite some good
fielding and tidy bowling by Hamish Manger
who took 3 for 17 in six overs.
S
herborne's Bs scored 218 for 8, Max
Molle taking 3 for 31. It would be
fair to say that Sherborne's bowlers
were better than our batsmen! A
late partnership between Morgan
Smith and Ed Warmington saw us
reach some respectability and a total of 82
against Millfield, but despite a good bowling
performance, Millfield batted steadily to reach
our total with some ease.
We bowled well at Blundell's, and wickets fell
steadily - Tom Powell took three good catches,
and Connor McKenna two. After a middle
order collapse, a good partnership between
Max Molle and Ed Warmington looked
promising, but once they were out, we ended
67 runs short.
We bowled Clifton out for 165, and though we
batted steadily, we eventually lost by 41. At
Taunton School, we conceded runs at an
alarming rate, but then three wickets each for
Morgan Smith and Will Bishop dismissed the
opposition for 116. We started losing wickets
in an effort to increase the run rate, and were
bowled out for 94.
Against Monmouth we lost early wickets, but
when all seemed lost, Morgan Smith and Will
Bishop saw us to a more than respectable
174. Unfortunately a few expensive overs got
Monmouth back in the game and they won
with two overs remaining.
