O
ur season started with us
pegged back by a strong
start from Wellington, but
once delivery into the
circle was controlled, we
took the lead and never
looked back. Leea Dod shot well, and good
marking in the centre meant we controlled the
court. We had a dominant win against
Queen's, the game being decided in the second
quarter when we scored 14 unanswered goals.
Stand-out players were Nancy Drew and
Maddie Robinson.
Despite conceding the lead in the first quarter
against Millfield, we fought back strongly after
the break to outscore them. They came out on
top in the final period though, but there were
many positives to take from the afternoon. We
took a three-goal lead almost immediately
against West Buckland, and never looked back
- a very satisfying 15-11 win.
The Canford fixture ended in a nailbiting 22-22
draw! Neither team dominated, and though
Leea Dod was closely marked in the circle,
excellent movement by Alicia Mileham created
many good chances. Blundell's proved tough
opposition, but we played magnificently in a
dominant display to win 40-18. The match
was won through total commitment, with
terrific interceptions converted into goals.
It was to be another draw in an intense fixture
at Clifton, the girls sticking to their game plan
with great discipline. We did well to resist the
constant pressure, and felt pleased overall with
a good away draw. We went on to win a very
evenly matched contest at Taunton School.
Nancy Rowe and Gina Harvey made life
difficult for their shooters, and we were able to
maintain a
decent lead
throughout to
win 22-18. And
it was another
tight match at
Colyton - Nancy
Rowe gave their
GA nothing to
work on in the
circle, resulting
in an excellent
20-14 win to
round off our
season!
T
he Bs started strongly and led
for the entire game against
Wellington. Though the two
teams were well matched, we
kept our noses in front with
strong performances from
Bronwen Prosser and Phoebe Smith.
Against Queen's we had to fight hard to win
16-10, but once we had established a lead, we
kept it throughout with some well-controlled
play. Passing was skilled and energetic - Annie
O'Neill was particularly strong at centre.
In the Canford fixture we faced faster, more
skillful opposition, but we competed well, and
made significant progress as the match
developed. Imogen Segrave was our player of
the match.
We were to win the following week though at
Blundell's - by the final quarter we were
playing our best netball of the season so far.
Player of the match this week was Jennifer
Stapleton.
At Clifton we showed some of our most speedy
and skillful play against tough opposition,
working well together and improving in team
cohesion as the game wore on. The Cs fell
behind in the third quarter, but were able to
pull things back to earn a hard-fought draw in
the end!
We went behind early on at Taunton School,
but picked up our game gradually during the
course of the game. The reserves were
particularly effective in making an impact as
they came on. The Cs drew for the second
week in a row, keeping their nerve impressively
to claw back an early deficit.
And like the As we finished our season at
Colyton with an excellent victory - we shot into
the lead early on, and stayed in front for the
rest of the match to win 18-8!
