E
xeter School were our first
opponents, and in an open
flowing game, Jack Holmes
scored twice before half-time,
and completed his hat-trick
after the interval. Will Potter
and Max Germain joined him on the
scoresheet, while Patrick Cartwright made
some excellent saves.
Against Queen's we were missing five key
players due to illness, but we still turned in a
good performance, with well-taken goals by
Ben Pritchard and Jack Holmes. We had
glorious chances to seal a win (a penalty stroke
and an open goal) but had to settle for a draw
- there were impressive performances from
debutants Ben Pritchard and Albert Healey.
We started brightly against Wellington, but
gradually they edged their way into the game
with a goal just before half-time, and in a
disappointing second-half performance, we
conceded twice more. It was another good
start at Sherborne, but defensive errors put us
on the back foot. We gave away too much
possession, and though Jamie Wild scored a
well-taken goal, Sherborne capitalised on our
mistakes. Man of the match was Alex Sherred.
At Blundell's we started slowly, and soon found
ourselves 3-0 down. Gradually we found our
feet, and the work rate of Joe Merriweather in
midfield and the new attacking partnership of
Blaine Tottle and Conor Bannister started to
create space and chances. But we had left
ourselves too much to do.
A Taunton School goal against the run of play
put us on the back foot, and an injury caused
us to lose shape.
After a structural
change at half-time,
our 'never say die'
attitude forced us
back into the game
with a goal, but we
couldn't convert any
more of our chances.
At Clifton we
conceded an early
goal, but then settled
down to play with
composure and
precision. We looked
like scoring from
every attack - goals
came from Jack
Holmes, William
Potter, Blaine Tottle (2) and Joe Merriweather
(2). And again at Millfield we conceded early on
but fought back immediately with an equaliser
from Jordan Clayton. We were unable though to
convert further pressure into goals. The end of a
season with many highlights!
T
he Bs were 2-0 up after ten
minutes of their season, with
tremendous goals from
captain Harry Parkin and
Aaron Dobie. We couldn't
keep up the intensity in the
second half, but excellent work from debutant
keeper Conor Bannister saw us through to a
2-1 win.
The Wellington fixture was an end-to-end
game, in which we should have scored on a
number of occasions. Wellington took the lead
with the half-time interval beckoning, and
keeper Ed Warmington made a string of
excellent saves in the second half, but
somehow we couldn't quite find the back of the
net.
After a heavy defeat at Sherborne, we showed
a vast improvement down at Canford. We
played much better as a team, and it was good
to see skipper Albert Healey back in action.
We had a very close game against Taunton
School for all but ten minutes of the second
half, when four goals in as many minutes
finished us off. We played well though in the
final quarter of the game, and were rewarded
with a good consolation goal.
We allowed Clifton to take an early lead as we
failed to take our chances. The second half
was all King's, but again we needed to seize
our opportunities. It was a great end to the
season though, as we took the lead at Millfield
through Harry Parkin. Charlie Rodgers and
Sam Hawkes in goal were particularly effective
as we battled through for a fine win. Aluredian
