O
ff the pitch this year,
student coaches Jamie
Dingle and Aaron Deeks
joined our coaching team
through a link with
neighbours Richard Huish
College. Both worked well with the squads as
part of their degree studies.
1st XI captain Joe Watts and goalkeeper Ross
Kieswetter represented the school in the South
Squad for the North v South Mercian League
fixture, both turning in impressive
performances, with Ross saving a penalty.
Girls' football
Our Under 15s started the year well, retaining
their title at the ISFA South West Girls' six-aside
in September, and followed that up with a
semi-final place at the National six-a-sides at
Bradfield in October. Our Under 18s, many in
their last season at King's, put in several good
performances, and due credit must go to them
all as the pioneers of girls' football at King's.
The Lent term saw the start of our link with
Bristol Academy Women's FC and the local
Women's Premier League Club, plus the arrival
of player and coach Grace McCatty, an England
Under 23 international. In addition Becca
Todd, captain of Exeter University Ladies' FC
and FA Coaching Scholar, joined our coaching
team through a link with British Universities'
and Colleges' Sports. Both links are a direct
benefit from King's College's newly acquired
status as the first ever ISFA Girls' Development
School.
The experience of being coached by two highly
experienced coaches and players bore fruit in
the girls' performances in fixtures against
Blundell's, Chilton Cantelo and Castle School.
Flora Cohen and Erin Slade attended the ISFA
Leadership Camp in April, and received glowing
reports that put them in contention for
selection for the National FA Leadership Camp
in 2012 and possible selection as Football
Ambassadors. As a result of this Flora has
been selected as one of only four independent
school pupils from across England to join a
Student Management Team to participate in the
planning and delivery of the 2012 ISFA
Leadership Camps.
Sixth-form footballers Sydney Corliss, Jodie
Keily and Phyllis Chow were selected for the
ISFA Under 18 South West Squad and took
part in the Tournament of Regions at
Marlborough College in March.
Events
March saw the hosting of over 200 young
footballers for the first King's Under 11 Prep
School six-a-side tournament for girls and boys.
King's pupils Henry Robinson, Archie Watts,
Erin Slade, Pippa O'Neill and Flora Cohen
played lead roles in organising and refereeing a
very successful event.
The traditional OA fixture produced a welcome
victory for King's College, in a well-spirited and
'competitive' match, with plenty of
entertainment and ten goals!
An exciting and packed football year, and
2011 / 12 promises more of the same.
