A
good bowling performance
saw the 2nd XI's season get
off on the right foot, as we
restricted Sherborne to 155,
James Jennings taking four
wickets. In reply, our batting
was rather unrealistically positive, possibly
even a touch cavalier, and we were bundled out
for 83. At Millfield we had our opposition
reeling on 11 for 6, James Jennings the pick of
the bowlers with 5 for 13. Millfield were
eventually all out for 84, and as the rain clouds
gathered, Chris Griffiths and Joe Watts wasted
no time in hitting 25 for no loss, before
frustratingly the heavens opened with King's
poised for victory.
Matt Harden was the pick of the bowlers at
Queen's with 5 for 42, as Queen's reached
187 for 9. Dougie Denton hit an entertaining
44, but at 88 for 6, there was still much to do!
Archie Watts and James Winsey steadied the
ship, but we still needed 20 with one wicket
left. James and Henry Robinson chipped away
at the total, and the win came from a
sumptuous cover drive for four by Winsey! A
good fielding performance and some excellent
wicketkeeping by George Lang saw us restrict
Blundell's to 135 all out. Joe Watts again
looked in good touch, and Sam Merriweather
hit three huge sixes, as we eventually won by
three wickets.
A superb opening spell by Will Griffiths and
Ryan May and three wickets for Archie Watts
meant Clifton could only reach 127. We never
really recovered from losing Jamie Grantham
after an excellent 32, and the rest of the
afternoon was a disappointment. At Taunton
School, Jamie Grantham hit a well-crafted 57,
ably supported by Matt Harden's 39, as we
ended on 174. Ryan May then produced a
stunning spell of 3 for 23, and with Archie
Watts taking 4 for 36,
Taunton were bowled out
59 runs short.
An outstanding century
by Jamie Grantham was
the foundation for our
massive 241 for 4
against Monmouth.
Joe Watts too looked set
for three figures before he
was caught on 73 by our
own Olly Gibb, one of
three home players lent
to the opposition who
arrived with only seven
men. In Monmouth's
reply of 116, 60 were
scored by King's players,
Rob Ellis scoring 21
and Olly Gibb an
excellent 39.
H
ugo Segrave was the pick
of the bowlers in our
opening match, as
Sherborne raced to 246
for 9. We struggled to
keep up with the required
run rate, and were eventually all out for 165,
Olly Gibb top-scoring with 45. The 4ths were
bowled out for 136 after losing too many early
wickets, but the wagging tail of George Hall
and Alex Grace took us to a respectable score.
Sherborne's openers reached their target with
ease.
We managed to bowl Millfield out for 112, Alex
Dathan and James Dent doing most of the
damage. In trouble at 12 for 2, Hugo Segrave
and Henry Tetley steadied the ship, leaving it to
Alex Dathan and Tom Counsell to see us home
by three wickets. Henry Tetley hit 94 as we
reached 206 at Blundell's. In reply Blundell's
were all out for 103 in under 19 overs - wicket
takers were Bing Torrance, Alex Dathan, Henry
Tetley, Alex Grace and James Dent, and Olly
Gibb's leg-spin finished the innings.
Olly Mason was the star of the show at Clifton,
taking 5 for 23 in six overs. Sensible batting
saw them to 130, and despite a rally launched
by Olly Mason and Will Murray, we ended our
innings on 69. In a Twenty20 match against
Taunton School, Olly Mason bowled four overs
for just nine runs, and Hayden Tyler conceded
just six. Henry Tetley took three wickets as
Taunton finished on 111, and in reply Olly
Mason hit 39 and Tetley 30 as we overhauled
their total for three wickets in the 15th over.
