in comfort (the shelves have been designed
with built-in seating and we have installed a
lime-green sofa with the best view in the
school) and lose themselves in the joy of
reading. Even those who use the library purely
as a quiet space for study can, I am sure, draw
comfort and strength from the weighty embrace
of the surrounding books.
The library has been designed with a younger,
more group-oriented provision at one end, with
large tables and open spaces, moving to an
individual, sixth form feel at the other, where
older pupils are able to work at their own
desks.
The library is, too, as IT rich as possible, with
a good wireless link to the school network
available throughout. We have CDs and DVDs
and Kindles on loan and the sensible, effective
use of the internet for research is a central
theme of the library lessons. But the tone is
set by books, fifteen thousand of them. I could
not be prouder or more excited.
