T
he first team consisted of
Jossie Zilkha, Milla Bell, Hatti
Mason, Tory Clark, Jess
Kennedy and Charlotte
Palmer. Jossie, Hatti, Tory
and I were all part of the
unbeaten season last year, so we felt under
pressure to maintain this unbeaten streak!
The season began with a match against
Wellington, which was won by King's 7-2.
This was very encouraging for us as we all had
new partners, so we had to get used to
different playing styles. The result gave us
hope that this was indeed going to be another
good season.
Our next match was against Taunton School, a
tough fixture with a very strong first pair, whom
some of us remembered from the previous year.
It was a very competitive match, with every pair
struggling to beat the talented first pair. The
second pair of Taunton was also strong; all pairs
had a very close match against them.
Unfortunately we lost the match, and with it the
unbeaten season from the previous year.
However with the prospect of an unbeaten
season finished, we felt a large weight had been
lifted and we could now focus on the tennis.
Blundell's were next on the fixture list. This
was a good match for King's as we all regained
our focus and played very well to win 7-2.
The next match always fills players with dread
- not only are Canford a very strong sporting
outfit, they are also a very long way away.
Unfortunately we managed to get rather lost on
the way, travelling along very narrow country
lanes for the majority of the journey, so we
were very late. Also country lanes and coaches
generally lead to car sickness, so most of the
players were feeling rather queasy. As
anticipated Canford were very strong, however
our first pair, Hatti Mason and Tory Clark,
managed an amazing win against the Canford
first pair using sports psychology and goal
setting to get them through the match.
Unfortunately overall we lost the fixture.
Our last match of the season, and the last
match ever at King's for Jossie, Hatti and me,
was against Queen's. Being the last match of
our King's careers, we wanted to go out in
style. Queen's had a strong first pair, which no
King's pair could beat, but overall we won the
match 6-3.
I very much enjoyed this season. Although it
was not the most successful tennis team that
I have been a part of, it was definitely my
favourite team, as we all got on well and love
tennis. I'd also like to thank Jess for being my
partner for the year and I hope that the team
next year will do well.
