A
demanding schedule awaited
us at the beginning of term,
with all but one of our
fixtures taking place before
half-term. Three fixtures in
a week was not uncommon,
which affected both the quantity and quality of
training we were able to fit in. Nonetheless it
was a season of many successes.
The 1st VI were determined to increase their
effort and focus, as many matches last year
had been narrowly lost 5-4. Promising
newcomer Henry Hall paired up with seasoned
veteran Jordan Clayton at first pair, and we
relied on them to secure us hopefully three
wins each match. But the other pairs were to
play equally important roles - Rob Ellis and
Sam Matthews battled well at second pair, but
third pair Will Walters and Ivo Gavin also
contributed a significant number of wins with
their all-round steadiness on court.
The team played consistently well all season,
beating all our local rivals, with pleasing wins
