ugust 2011 brought news of
another record-breaking set
of public examination
results. At A Level, most
impressive of all were the
number of A* and A grades:
16% of entries attracted A* grades and 44%
received A* or A grades. Of the 82 pupils
taking A Levels this year, an astonishing 22
achieved three or more A*s or As. As a result,
62 out of 75 leavers who held university offers
have won highly sought after places in this
most competitive of years.
Individual successes include Freddie Barker,
with three A*s and an A. Freddie is going to
Imperial College to read Maths. Henry Close
achieved two A*s and an A and will be reading
History at Durham, where he will be joined by
Tom Drysdale, with an A*, two As and a B,
who will study Engineering. Chloe Simpson
achieved three A*s and an A and will read
Biological Sciences at Oxford. Sam Vickery,
with an A* and three As, has secured his place
at Cardiff to study Medicine. Also going to
Cardiff, with an A* and two As is William
Walters, to study Dentistry. Josceline Zilkha
achieved two A*s and two As and will be
studying Medicine at Sheffield.
Other notable successes were achieved by
Florian Brueggemann (two A*s and three As -
Biomedical Engineering at Imperial), Phyllis
Chow (two A*s and an A - Chemistry at
Durham), Shan Ji (two A*s, an A and a B -
We welcomed six new members of staff
to King's College at the beginning of this
new school year: Meg Menheneott and
Chris Mason joined the Mathematics
department, Alison Roberts joined us as
a new Learning Support teacher,
Lucinda Randell and Clare Schmidt
joined the Art department, while
Matthew Taylor is a new member of the
Design and Technology department.
We extend to them all the warmest of
King's welcomes.

grade, with 55% getting A* or A. Three pupils,
Tom Counsell, Rosie Parr and Ted Vickery,
achieved A*s in all of their subjects. In a year
group of 75, 18 pupils achieved all As and
A*s. They are Georgina Adcock, Matilda
Barker, Katie Blowers, Tom Counsell, Charlotte
Dathan, Oliver Driscoll, Flora Evans, Jake
Fleming, Alice Geraghty, Laura Hamilton,
Eleanor Healey, Bryony House, Melissa
McFarlane, William Murray, Rosie Parr,
Charlotte Smyth, Ted Vickery and Archie Watts.
