LEGGETT IMMOBILIER - LOCAL KNOWLEDGE YOU CAN TRUST
The French love gardens - visit
any marketplace to find stalls with
vendors who have truly delectable
plants with which to tempt you to
open your purse. But before you buy
that bougainvillea, remember some
plants are frost tender! For larger
trees find a local pépinière (nursery) and make
your selection there
- always checking first to ensure
you have the right soil conditions
to grow your choice. Much of South
Western France, for example, is calcaire
(limestone) and it will be very
hard to grow acers and acid loving
plants. But never despair, there will
always be the perfect plant for your
spot!
Shade can be important in
these hotter climes, cooling luscious greenery
and flowering vines
cascade over walls and the scent of
wisteria, jasmine and roses pervade
the air. Often a small water feature
will trickle into an ancient stone
bowl, perhaps from a moss covered
faucet - the classic French garden is
set to seduce your senses!
Leggett Immobilier is proud to continue its sponsorship of the Open
Gardens / Jardins Ouvert scheme. Starting with just four proud gardeners
in the Creuse back in 2013 opening their gates to raise money
for charity, the number of gardens participating continues to grow
each year - the aim is to cover the country by 2021. Ideal for inspiration
visit www.opengardens.eu and check their calendar to see
what's open and when near you. They're always looking for more
gardens - and keen gardeners - to join their scheme!
