WORKING FOR LEGGETT LEGGETT MAGAZINE

After working as a garden designer
in Devon, I moved to the Mayenne
department, in the Pays-de-la-Loire.
I live near Lassay-les-Chateaux,
and I have been a Leggett agent
for nine years. I was looking for a
challenge to reactivate my brain. I
had been self-employed, so I was
comfortable with the focus and
self-discipline required, and I am
now a coach with a team of great
agents around me. Having the support of a team means I
can take time out for family or holidays when needed. Often,
vendors come from my existing network of friends, so letting
everyone know what you do is very important - I think of it
as passive prospection! It's a great recruitment tool; two of my
current team are people whose property I have sold. Many new
owners have also become great friends. Being in touch with
the local community is very important, involvement with the
commune, Mairie, local farmers, school and clubs all helps you
to integrate into local life, and often leads to sales leads and
private buying clients. I often have people turning up on the
doorstep looking for the English estate agent lady! A typical day
might involve driving to meet property hunters to see several
properties, showing them the area and stopping for a coff ee
at a local village. You could be mandating a beautiful country
manoir in the morning and viewing a barn for renovation in
the afternoon, with a drainage inspection in between! For
anyone who loves property, this is a fabulous job. Giving your
clients your time pays dividends. They'll always appreciate
the attention you give them when discussing their plans,
sharing local knowledge, and fi nding them suitable properties.
It's this personal approach and service that makes you stand
out from the competition.
