payments are relatively easy to
service. Last year saw a record
amount of real estate loans
(which were one of the main
drivers of the improving housing market)
and, whilst they
have since increased slightly,
they are still at an historically
low rate.
This cheap financing of
property continues to underpin
a healthy and active property
market. The Notaires de France
tell us that there were 907,000
transactions in the last 12
months, a figure which dwarfs
the 837,000 in the previous
"benchmark" year of 2006.
One of the consequences
of this soaring demand is that
prices too are beginning to rise
- the thought that a property
purchase can be made with
both the heart and the head is
proving attractive to UK buyers.
PUT YOURSELF IN A
STRONG NEGOTIATING
POSITION
Research shows that those buyers
who have their financing in
place are in a stronger position
when it comes to negotiating
a good price and agreeing a
purchase quickly.
Our brokers will be able to
work with you in gaining an "in
principle" offer so that both the
estate agent and the vendor
can have confidence that you
are a serious buyer with the
ability to move quickly. Don't
under-estimate the influence
that this can have with vendors
when it comes to your negotiations.
Furthermore, because
we work with the leading
French banks and lenders, the
loan process is usually quick
and easy, again leading to a
smoother property transaction.
Hopefully this snapshot
will have given you a greater
understanding of the benefits
of taking out a French mortgage.
It's probably worthwhile
adding that buying real estate
in France is a secure and
straightforward process. Add to
this the "pro-business" factor
that President Macron has introduced
in his first year of office
and the outlook for the sector
looks healthy.
As I said earlier, French
banks remain keen to lend to
British buyers and my team will
be delighted to make sure that
you find the lender and loan
that best suits your individual circumstances.
We are a
completely bilingual team with
vast experience of the French
mortgage marketplace.
