In fact, around one in every 20
properties that we sell is to a client
from far-flung shores. "France may
well be known for its bureaucracy
but the truth is that the necessary
administration is usually just long
winded, rather than onerous or
complicated.
It's likely that Brexit will have
little long-term effect on British
residents moving across the
Channel. People have historically
moved because of the quality of
life, better weather and affordable
property prices - none of those
factors are going to change."
If you want to spend longer
than 90 days at a time, but do not
want to be resident you will need
a "Visa de long séjour temporaire
visiteur".
If you want to apply for
residency you do not use the
portal that was created for existing
residents who were in situ before
the end of 2020. Instead, you will
need to get a five year Carte de
Séjour, after which you will apply
for a permanent one.

the 90-day rule - that you do not
spend more than 90 days in 180
days there at a time, without a visa
- like American and other non-EU
owners, and bear in mind that you

your passport for travel to France.

to apply for a visa that involves
showing your financial selfsufficiency.
If you want to rent out your
property, you may be liable for
slightly higher social charges on
any income earned from it.
Moving to France after 2020
If you want to spend longer than
90 days at a time in France there
is the option to move over full-
time and apply for residency. The
French government launched a
new website in October 2020 for
Britons already settled in France to
apply for residency, but this is not
for people moving over in 2021.
