OUTDOOR AND ADVENTURE
EDUCATION BA (HONS)
If you love outdoor and adventure activities, this
degree is for you. With a strong emphasis on theory
in practice and a broad range of exit routes into
work, our degree in Outdoor and Adventure
Education will suit anyone who has a passion for the
outdoors and learning through direct experience. We
can offer you the best balance of theory and practical
teaching because our lecturing staff hold high-level
academic and coaching qualifications. Because of this,
we don't need to outsource our practical teaching to
colleges or outdoor centres which means that we
develop outstanding professional relationships with
you. This approach is proven to enhance individual
attainment and the overall student experience. With
an extensive residential programme in the UK and
overseas, we work closely with you to develop your
performance in adventure activities, academic skills
and National Governing Body awards.
The work placement year provides a unique
opportunity to link theory and practice for you to
develop professionally as well as intellectually.
Employers tell us that our graduates make the most
attractive applicants due to the depth of experience
gained during the work placement. Best of all, our
graduates who have benefitted from the work
placement year will make the same repayments on
their loans after graduation as graduates who
complete three-year programmes. This qualification
offers a unique opportunity to gain essential
experience in addition to an internationallyrecognised
degree.
ADVENTURE FACILITATION AND
EDUCATION (TOP-UP)
This distance learning course is a three-semester
extension for those wishing to gain an honours
degree in Adventure Facilitation and Education.
Typically, you will have already gained a foundation
degree in Adventure Education and wish to gain a full
honours degree. However, if you have gained an
alternative qualification at Level Five in a related
subject, you are also encouraged to apply. This
extension course offers those already working in the
sector, or who have worked with groups in the
adventure setting, an opportunity to acquire a range
of academic insights and models that will enhance the
delivery of practical aspects of adventure education.
Your learning will be focused on the workplace and
you will experience a variety of learning approaches
including work-related observations, essays, seminars,
tutorials and distance learning.
THIS DEGREE COURSE ENDORSES THE UNDERSTANDING THAT
PERSONAL GROWTH CAN OCCUR THROUGH OUTDOOR AND
ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES - THIS MIGHT BE THE DEVELOPMENT OF
TECHNICAL SKILLS IN THE TRADITIONAL OUTDOOR PURSUITS OR
AN INCREASE IN PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES SUCH AS SELF-CONFIDENCE,
TEAMWORK AND SELF-ESTEEM.
