PGCE Primary Education
Recent classroom experience in a UK
maintained primary school (an absolute
minimum of two weeks in the last two
years). A first degree with honours at
2:1 or above (candidates with a 2:2
degree may be accepted if they have
extensive teaching experience). For the
Primary MFL Specialist route: A2 or
above in a modern language at grade
A - C (or equivalent) and the ability to
be sufficiently proficient in French or
Spanish to carry out training
requirements and teaching within a
primary placement. GCSE/O levels
English Language, Mathematics and
Science at grade C or above.

PGCE Secondary Education
Recent classroom experience in a UK
maintained secondary school (an
absolute minimum of two weeks in the
last two years). A first degree with
honours at 2:2 or above (varies by
subject). Half the content of the degree
should be relevant to the National
Curriculum requirements for your
subject. There may be some exceptions
and the relevant admissions tutor will
be able to advise you.

For all programmes of initial teacher
training:
A pass in professional skills tests for
trainee teachers in literacy and
numeracy.
Interview, Disclosure Barring Service
(DBS) and health checks required.
Fitness to practise must be
demonstrated before the start of the
course. All successful applicants to
teacher training need to demonstrate
professional understanding, an
awareness of current education issues
and be able to reflect critically about
their recent classroom experience. You
may also be required to undertake a
range of assessment tasks.

FdA Teaching and Learning Support
All students must be employed in an
education setting supporting teaching
and learning and have the support of
their employer. The ability to
communicate clearly and accurately in
spoken and written English is essential.
Applicants should normally have at least
one Level Three qualification (A
level/BTEC/ NVQ3/Advanced
Apprenticeship). A non-standard
entry route is available for students
who are 21 years old, or over, and have
been working with children for at least
three years. Interview and DBS
check required.
