We consistently perform well against the elite of
university sport. A high number of our performance
teams compete in the British Universities and
Colleges Sport (BUCS) programme at elite level.
Several teams are supported with high-level coaching,
training facility support and sports science analysis.
Numerous local and national sports clubs' links with
our student sports teams provide additional highlevel
playing opportunities.
The University's Gifted Athlete Scholarship Scheme
helps students combine academic study with
excellence in sporting performance by offering the
flexibility and support required to compete at the
highest level.
The programme is designed to support gifted
athletes who contribute to and enhance the level of
University sport, with the following package:
• £500 financial award
• Bespoke support from the Sports Performance
and Rehabilitation Unit (SPRU)
• University Gym membership
• Sports Federation Membership
• Tracksuit
The scheme has supported a number of athletes
including a Commonwealth judo champion, a
potential 2016 Olympic sailor and a GB Windsurfer
