SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT FOR
BUSINESS BSC (HONS)
There is an increased demand for employable and
productive software engineering/design graduates
to meet the requirements of a growing IT industry.
This course will enable you to develop competence
in software development by providing the
knowledge and skills necessary to practice as a
software engineer in a business environment. In
addition to core technical competencies based
around analysis, design, development and testing,
you will also have the opportunity to develop the
skills to understand the business environment. This
will include how to manage projects, work within
groups, and recognise the importance of
negotiation, effective work habits, leadership and
good communication.
IT Management for Business and Software
Development for Business were both developed in
partnership with e-skills UK, an employer-led, notfor-profit
company, licensed by Government as the
Sector Skills Council for Business and Information
Technology. Organisations involved with the design
of the curriculum include IBM, Capgemini, CGI,
Accenture, Barclays, Credit Suisse, Deloitte, Ernst &
Young, Fujitsu, Goldman Sachs, Google, HP, John
Lewis, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, and
CA Technologies.
COMPUTING (SOFTWARE
DEVELOPMENT) (HND)
This course is delivered at the Isle of Wight College.
The Higher National Diploma is a specialist
vocational programme with a strong work-related
element, which is included as one of the second
year units. The qualification provides you with a
thorough grounding in the key concepts and
practical skills required in the sector with national
recognition by employers. Following completion of
the HND, a key progression path is to the second or
third year of a degree or honours degree
programme, depending on the match of the units to
the degree programme in question. Alternatively,
successful candidates can enter employment or
undertake further, more specialist study.
