MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN
HISTORY BA (HONS)
This degree will allow you to concentrate on the
period of history that fascinates you most. The
historic city of Chichester is the perfect location to
develop your understanding of the history of ninth
to seventeenth centuries. Themes to be covered will
include: Crusades, Renaissance, Reformation,
Tudors, as well as Enlightenment and Revolution.
The degree will facilitate your historical skills as well
as providing a focused and detailed specialism.
Modules will include British and European history, as
well as developing research skills, supported by our
partners from the West Sussex Record Office and
the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum.
MODERN HISTORY BA (HONS)
This degree will allow you to concentrate on the
period of history that fascinates you most. Taught by
international research experts you will have an
extended programme exploring nineteenth,
twentieth and twenty-first century history. Themes
include modern warfare, the Cold War, imperialism
and decolonization, civil rights, statecraft and
diplomacy, modern city life, culture and politics, and
nationalism. Modules cover an extensive
international range including, British, European,
American and African history.

This specialist degree allows you to combine the
study of nineteenth and twentieth century history,
while discussing and analysing how states around the
world interact with each other. Supported by a
number of international exchange options, you will
graduate with the ability to analyse the international
politics of themes such as globalisation, international
organisations, terrorism, security, peace-making and
post-conflict resolution. In short, it offers you
British, European, American and African modern
history alongside the exciting field of International
Relations. Students wanting to gain a focus on
domestic politics will also be free to select modules
in this area to support their development.
