LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRES
Bishop Otter Campus
The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is the hub of your learning environment. The Bishop Otter LRC has
two upper floors of library resources, one for silent study and one for quiet group study. SIZ is located on the
ground floor, where you will also find the PrintShop, Creative Hub, Otter Gallery, Costa Coffee and a variety
of IT resources including bookable group study booths. We also have over 200 PC workstations and 56
Apple iMacs, some of which you can book in advance, and others that are available on a 'first come/first
served' basis, and professional standard audio/video editing suites. Through SIZ you can also borrow a range
of laptops (as well as other IT equipment such as digital cameras and audio equipment).
Bognor Regis Campus
The Bognor Regis LRC has the library silent and quiet work zones on the first floor, with a number of prebookable
and 'first come, first served' PCs. On the ground floor are more library resources, Costa Coffee
and the SIZ desk, for help and guidance, and where loan computer equipment can be arranged. We also have
over 105 open access PC workstations (including 25 loanable laptops), printing facilities, four group study
booths with large flat-screen displays and a number of places to connect up your own laptop. If the LRC is
fully in use, there are a further 22 open access PCs available in the Dome building.
IT FACILITIES
In addition to the Student IT at each LRC there is a comprehensive wireless network covering all key areas.
The network enables fast internet access, as well as access to University systems such as the Moodle2 Virtual
Learning Environment (VLE). Whether using an open-access device, or your own device, you should be able
to access all of the university information you need. As well as access to an extensive range of library
resources, most services (booking a booth or borrowing a piece of equipment such as a camera) can be
arranged on-line and there are links to each of these services from within Moodle2. Similarly whether using
your own device and web-printing, or when printing using any open-access device, your prints are delivered
to any of the printers located throughout the campus. IT support is readily available with extensive online
help, or you can contact SIZ by telephone (whenever the LRCs are open), by email or self-service at any time.
All of our on-campus student accommodation has high-speed wired access to the internet which provides
connectivity for multiple devices including games consoles, access to free-to-air television and the option to
subscribe to telephony, premium TV and higher bandwidth services. Wireless internet access is available in
communal areas within the residences.
SUBJECT LIBRARIANS
You will have a nominated librarian for your subject who is responsible for liaising with your tutors to
develop appropriate library collections and who can provide you with training and support in making the
most of the information available on the shelves and online. You will receive an early induction to the library
and to the University's VLE (Moodle2) from which you can build your confidence in seeking out and
managing the information you need independently. Your subject librarian will continue to be available to help
and advise throughout your studies.
