CHARENTE MARITIME LEGGETT MAGAZINE
Charente Maritime in the
southwest of France is
where the north meets
the south. The region
boasts some of the best beaches
in France and, second only to
the Mediterranean for sunshine
hours, the department capital
La Rochelle gets an average of just
23 frosty nights a year, there are
plenty of opportunities to enjoy the
outdoor life. Head inland, and you
will find rural countryside where
fields of sunflowers sit beside
lush vineyards, and the landscape
is dotted with picturesque
villages. The area is known for its
sensational seafood, especially
oysters, and just over the border is
Cognac, where the famous brandy
is produced. The department has
excellent transport connections,
with airports in La Rochelle and
neighbouring Bordeaux, plus
excellent motorways and trains, the
TGV to Paris from La Rochelle takes
just under three hours.
Charming countryside, stunning seaside,
and a sunny disposition make the Charente
Maritime a very sought after department with
plenty of property opportunities to suit all
budgets.
