M
Y FAMILY AND I
moved to Poitou
Charentes in 2003
and since then I
have been able
to enjoy watching my children
grow up in an idyllic environment.
The new region of Nouvelle
Aquitaine covers a vast
swathe of south west France
and vastly different landscapes.
Each of them gets to share the
superb climate though - we get
to experience the best of all seasons and enjoy
long, warm, summers
that allow us to make the
most of the garden. An aperitif
before the evening meal is one
of many French traditions that
we have adopted since moving
over here.
We're not the only "international" family
in the area. This
region has long been a favourite of
British, Dutch and Belgian
buyers. The average spend of an
overseas buyer is just €235,000
and this is a healthy budget in
what is one of the best value
regions of France. Leggett has
over 7,200 properties for sale in
Nouvelle Aquitaine, so, to help
buyers, we have split this into
three on our website: Poitou-
Charentes, Aquitaine and Limousin.
Poitou-Charentes is a glorious area
that takes in coastal
gems such as La Rochelle with
its chic boutiques, pretty harbour and vibrant
lifestyle, and
Royan with its safe and sandy
beaches, wonderful seafood,
and family friendly ambiance.
Further inland you will find a
rolling landscape, dominated
by the vineyards whose grapes
go on to create cognac for the
world famous Cognac houses
such as Hennessy, Remy Martin
and Courvoisier.
Our listings include plenty
of properties with income potential, such
as chambre d'hÔtes
and gÎtes, to make the most
of the rental demand in the
area. The departments of Deux
Sèvres and Vienne are worth investigating
too, as they benefit
from the same micro-climate,
with excellent value properties.
Aquitaine includes the popular Dordogne
department, a

firm favourite with British buyers
who see the sunshine and
quality of life on the TV shows
and decide they want their own
particular place in the sun. The
Dordogne does indeed offer a
beautiful landscape and low
prices which is why it counts for
around 45% of all international
sales in Aquitaine. However, the
surrounding departments also
offer an excellent combination
of quality and value and I would
encourage you to explore them
fully.
Finally, the Limousin is renowned
for its wide open spaces, slow
pace of life and terrific
value for money. I urge you to
take a look through our property
listings and defy you not to gasp
at the quality of properties you
will find for such little money.
Access is easy via the international airport at Limoges,
and
towns such as Aubusson and
Uzerche are truly beautiful. If
you want to get away from it all
then there are few better places
to buy.
I am confident that whatever your
budget we will have a
property that matches your requirements.
We have strong and
consistent demand from both
domestic and overseas buyers
throughout the region. If you are
thinking of taking the plunge
then I'd heartily recommend
Nouvelle Aquitaine... it certainly
worked out for us!
