Upstairs is a symphony
of textured linen and lace,
chandeliers, sumptuous beds
covered with textiles and rooms
decorated with fascinating
objets d'art collected over the
years. Her craft room would be
the envy of any creative person.
Once again her light palette
is spread over every surface,
while whimsical treats and
chandeliers lead the eye from
one room to the next. On the
first floor they've also created a
chambre d'hôte wing with two
bedrooms.
Madeleine says the move
itself was not simple. "We had
dramas with the purchasers of
our English property reneging
at the 11th hour. So the process
dragged on for months before
we could settle. Thanks to
Leggett's local agent, Denise
Vincent - who persevered and
ensured things happened - we
were eventually able to move
style, everything is painted in a
colour that appears to be white.
In fact, the colour is one she
had specially created. It has
echoes of the very palest blue
blended with white shades to
reflect light.
A magnificent chandelier
sets off the hallway, while the
enchanting staircase - where
Madeleine has even embellished the tread
uprights -
curves gracefully upwards. Her
'white' treatment can be found
throughout the house: on the
walls, stairs, bannisters - and
even on the old tiled or wooden
floors.
To the left of the stairs are
two beautifully proportioned
drawing rooms. To the right,
the dining room, with a flower
bedecked chandelier, ready for
expansive dinner parties. The
