NORD-PAS-DE-CALAIS
Many UK readers know this
region as the entry point to
France. Perhaps less well known
is its role as a stop-off point for
second-home buyers, of whom
there are plenty. It's not just
Brits, either: buyers from nearby
Belgium and Holland boost the
local market too, making for a
lovely (and lively) cosmopolitan
atmosphere.
"Le Lude (72) is a beautiful market town in the Vallée
du Loir and hosts the most northerly château in the
Loire valley. This is one of the most historically significant
castles in France and has been inhabited by generations
of the same family for 260 years. It's a pretty town
with many narrow streets to explore, a bustling market
and friendly atmosphere. I've lived around here for 16
years now and this is a personal favourite."

Once again this is a region
where 'location, location, location' is critical. There
are three
départements with different
landscapes and prices. You'll
pay a premium in the Oise
département as it borders Paris.
The lowest prices (an average of
€105,000) are in the Aisne.
